Has mostly to do with stock nearby vs. whether they'll make money by having it shipped in and have it be fresh.
The stores near me that aren't the """specialty""" stories generally have seasons on stuff like this. For example with sweet potatoes there's a time around Thanksgiving where they know people will buy dozens of them so they order thousands, but the rest of the year you'd be lucky to find any on the shelves at all.

Yes, it's a store where they only have normal food like dinosaur shaped tendies, "fruit drink" made with 10% real juice, meat with no bones or skin that might traumatise you, and (for the health fanatics) sometimes a raw vegetable (safely chopped up and sealed in a plastic tub, of course)
