I've been drunk, loud and generally a bit insane ever since.
I don't know if it's good that it happened or not, I'm quite certain it's not "normal" like you ask, but I do know that I enjoyed it, and I've definitely lived one hell of a fast-paced, sometimes awesome life.

What to do, what to do...
The problem with drinking these days is I want something to do.
I WANT to play video games but I find myself watching YouTube and Netflix instead.
I rather do something than watch shit but by the time I envy gaming, I'm so drunk I can't.

Every time I quit for a few days I seem to get something akin to food poisoning. I wake up in the night or early morning with stomach pain and shit out diarrhoea that is virtually just water. I'll sit there for up to 10 minutes when it seems there's nothing left and the pain subsides.

Whilst it would be reasonable to assume this is just food poisoning from a poor diet that is full of a lot of takeout or reheated food it does seem to occur regardless of what I've eaten.

Anyone experienced similar?

Fell off the wagon last month. Had a pretty good run since May... got a gym membership, almost went every day of the week, good diet and all and drinking only one day of the week, maximum.
Then went on holiday with mom and gf... well, more like FOR my mom since she has a walking disability and is not ok to drive. Figured I might as well have some beers on the beach and try to enjoy myself as well. Got some liquor in a cheapo country as well, so on getting back figured might as well get into that.
Then the bachelors party for my cousin/best friend came up with him getting married to a presumed sociopath. His inevitable downfall fueled my drinking after.
Now I'm 3 days sober, didn't go to the gym yet but I can't stay in the cycle of sensing impending doom and drinking because of it. Also enrolled in university as my last chance to straighten my life out.

What are the best Riojas around the ~4 year mark? I drink almost exclusively Spanish/Portuguese reds.

If you're just going after time for super cheap, you would probably be looking at Campo Viejo's reserva wines which should be in the $15 range. If you can't find that, you're going to have to spend a bit more, but you could look for Marques de Caceres or Marques de Riscal which are quite common (reservas in the $20 range). La Rioja Alta also makes a special line, Vina Alberdi, whose current releases should be closer to 8-10 years out, they should run $16-25 depending on where you live and they would be my #1 category pick for reservas under $20.

If you straight up mean "best" I'd probably be looking at Heredia or La Rioja Alta's mainline, but those are going to be more expensive save for perhaps the LdH Cubillo which, if you're lucky, can sometimes be had for not much more than $20.

I cannot see how the pressure problem is such a big one, I mean, there's a 30mm pipe running no more than like 2m from the mash vessel, and nothing in it's way but for the thump keg, which a gnat's fart could penetrate as far as I can tell.
Indoor stills exploding because 190 proof liquid will release explosive gases, that I can understand. I can deal with that. I'll be monitoring the thing the whole time it's running, there'll only ever be a small amount of ethanol anywhere near the heat source, which isn't an open flame anyway, so wouldn't necessarily ignite ethanol gas even if my extractor fan did fail.

Nothing beats sugar and turbo yeast when it comes to mash. Stuff like turbo pure easily munches up 6kgs of sugar in 25 liters of mash within a week. Easy, efficient, cheap. Fuck me I miss my car so much. It's been a year, still two years to go, and my insurance premium is going to be absolutely insane after 2 DUIs; on the second of which I blew something like 4 times over the limit and was rekt on a cocktail of other shit too.
I'm thinking about buying a hayabusa. Now. License or not. Taking off the plates, and riding the 300 miles, drunk, at 200mph, to my grandfather's grave, then sitting there drinking moonshine with him before ODing on lorazepam.

Heroin is always available though, that helps you to not really give a shit about anything, and they will give you benzos if you're an alchie in acute withdrawal. Problem was, I was already addicted to diazepam as well as booze, so their chlordiazepoxide prescriptions did near-enough fuck all to help with the booze withdrawal. It was rough.
Loads of people there in the same position. I made friends with some poor dude who was using smack on top of his methadone prescription, and was alcohol dependent as well as psychotic after using too much meth. That poor guy knows what it's like to really suffer. All he was given was methadone and diazepam. Scary shit, even to just witness.
