I did last year and it was one of the things that finally helped me get off of processed shit. I used to buy into the calorie is a calorie meme and include a lot of processed shit in my diet to make counting them easier and then wondered why I never lost weight.

In our defense the schools don't teach this shit. I got maybe two weeks of material on healthy eating in junior high, none in high school. That's five hours outside of my Sesame Street years. You have to go pretty far out of your way to even know how to eat right these days.

It's been such a long time since I read this but I'm pretty sure one of the main takeaways was that companies put a bunch of shit into their processed food to make it taste good? While i do think that's shitty I don't think that takes away any blame from the people consuming the products. Now companies are required to give nutritional info and a ridiculous amount of information about food is available online, yet America keeps getting fatter. Most people just don't care about what they eat and I think that's more of a cultural thing rather than what's in processed food.

It's more that it's easy to get set into habits. As bad as shit like McDonalds might be, it'll taste better than whatever abortion you throw together as a college student after having never had to cook a meal for yourself that didn't come in a box. So it gets easier to make that choice in favor of eating out until you basically survive off take out. People know it's terrible for you but because it's not putting you in the hospital tonight or tomorrow, they'll do it anyways.
