This post is correct. People always say "but muh asian countries are so healthy, sodium can't be bad for you" without actually looking into the fact that 4/5 of the top 5 countries for stomach cancer are asian, with Korea in a strong 1st place due to all the kimchi they eat.

Kimchi has health benefits, but it also has drawbacks. It's like if I ate broccoli with butter. I'm getting good nutrition, but clogging my arteries at the same time.

> For Asians, one of the major risk factors is diet — in particular, diets high in smoked foods, salted fish and meats, and pickled foods, including Kim-chi.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1592326/

>>9311686
I don't know what point you are trying to get across. My argument was that even though Asians are healthier on average, their high sodium intake has direct negative health consequences, so saying sodium is healthy because they generally have less disease is misleading.
>>
>>9311698
You're probably right, IDK if the benefits of kimchi outweigh the risks due to the high sodium content, maybe another fermented food without so much sodium would be a better alternative. Kimchi every now and again probably wouldn't do too much harm though.
>>
Because Americans are idiots and readily target anything that sounds like it could potentially be harmful so that they have to put in the effort of researching what constitutes a healthy diet.
>YALL! THE CARBS!
That's all it takes.
>>
>>9311741
so that they dont* have to
>>
Regarding kimchi I just want to add that most people don't have an idea about just how much kimchi Koreans eat. Any minor defect in its nutritional content is hugely magnified due to how much they consume. For most westerners kimchi will be a health food. Just like how milk was a health food for most of history before the west started consuming it in such huge quantities that it became a health hazard.
>>
If they are so healthy why are they killing themselves?

On average, normally, typically, whatever word you want to use to exclude cherry picked corner cases: Whole grain bread has the same amount of simple carbohydrates as white bread does.
One cup of cooked white rice contains about 37 times LESS simple carbohydrates than a slice of whole grain bread does.
You're an idiot who is spouting bullshit because he believes everything he hears on the television.

>>9312041
I'm sorry, could you please elaborate more on the strawman you're trying to create against me to distract from how WRONG you were?
>>
>>9312029
See, that's an argument.

Now let's destroy it. White rice and whole grain bread have nearly identical glycemic indexes, and once you take >>9312041 into account you realize refined grains with fiber and nutrients removed are far less healthy.

>>9312042
Again, another non argument.
>>
>>9312043
>Now let's destroy it.
Hahahahaha

>Again, another non argument.
Why yes, what a surprise. A strawman is an logical fallacy and one does not need to construct an argument against it. Do you not understand how logical debate works? That's a rhetorical question, don't bother answering it with your non argument of calling things a non argument.

>White rice and whole grain bread have nearly identical glycemic indexes,
You have no idea what this actual entails, do you? Of course you don't.

>and once you take >>9312041 into account you realize refined grains with fiber and nutrients removed are far less healthy.
Behold the anecdote of Arnold's Country Bread. "%" being relative to daily recommended value, which is bullshit, but a relative constant so we can use it for comparison.
>White Bread
Protein 3g
Calcium 4%
Iron 8%
Thiamin 10%
Riboflavin 6%
Niacin 6%
Folic Acid 10%

>Whole Grain
Protein 5g
Calcium 4%
Iron 4%
Thiamin 6%
Robiflavin 2%
Niacin 4%
Folic Acic 2%

Whole grain has 2g more protein, 4% LESS iron. 4% LESS Thiamin. 4% more Riboflavin, 2% LESS Niacin, 8% less Folic Acid.
Instead of being snarky and telling you continue demonstrating how WRONG you are by backpedaling away from micronutrients and building a fort around macronutrients, I'm instead going to tell you to shut the fuck up and stop posting because you're an ignorant dumbass who will never amount to anything in life because you can't even google facts for yourself.
>>
>>9312081
Also, I'm out. Gotta get ready to bring the grandmother home from physical rehab. Feel free to construct incorrect arguments against my correctness since I won't be here to show how WRONG you are.
>>
>>9312081
That's great an all, but there's more to nutrition than slightly higher amounts of minerals added through fortification

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19079919
>whole-grain intake is protective against cancer, CVD, diabetes, and obesity. Despite recommendations to consume three servings of whole grains daily, usual intake in Western countries is only about one serving/d. Whole grains are rich in nutrients and phytochemicals with known health benefits. Whole grains have high concentrations of dietary fibre, resistant starch, and oligosaccharides. Whole grains are rich in antioxidants including trace minerals and phenolic compounds and these compounds have been linked to disease prevention. Other protective compounds in whole grains include phytate, phyto-oestrogens such as lignan, plant stanols and sterols, and vitamins and minerals. Published whole-grain feeding studies report improvements in biomarkers with whole-grain consumption, such as weight loss, blood-lipid improvement, and antioxidant protection. Although it is difficult to separate the protective properties of whole grains from dietary fibre and other components, the disease protection seen from whole grains in prospective epidemiological studies far exceeds the protection from isolated nutrients and phytochemicals in whole grains.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25559238
>We documented 26920 deaths during 2727006 person-years of follow-up. After multivariate adjustment for potential confounders, including age, smoking, body mass index, physical activity, and modified Alternate Healthy Eating Index score, higher whole grain intake was associated with lower total and CVD mortality but not cancer mortality:
>We further estimated that every serving (28 g/d) of whole grain consumption was associated with a 5% (95% CI, 2%-7%) lower total morality or a 9% (95% CI, 4%-13%) lower CVD mortality

So to return to the original argument, yes, "simple carbs, not good, whole grains, good."
>>
>>9312005
Not >>9311321 , but
Simple carbs are fast acting, give you a short burst of energy but do not sustain your system. Cane sugar is a good example.
Complex carbohydrates are what "fill you up," and allow your body to maintain your every level throughout the day. Wheat bread is a good example

Or you can think of it like
Simple sugar = cocaine , Complex sugar = steroids

>In its analysis, the 2005 DGAC reported that non-whole grains contributed important amounts of certain nutrients to the dietary patterns, including folate, iron, calcium, fiber, thiamin, riboflavin and niacin.56 append G-2 The 2005 DGAC concluded that including only 3 oz eqs of whole grains, with no non-whole grains, in the food patterns would lower intake of many of these key nutrients and perhaps place certain individuals at risk of nutrient inadequacy. However, the 2010 DGAC found that consuming all grains as whole grains would provide for nutrient adequacy in the patterns if fortified ready to eat (RTE) whole grain breakfast cereals were substituted for RTE refined grain breakfast.55 append E.7 The 2015 DGAC concluded that consumption of only whole grains with no replacement or substitution would result in nutrient shortfalls.

>unlike the naturally occuring form of thiamin,
It's a nitrate salt of thiamine that dissociates into free thiamine and nitrate ions in water. You'd find that in any plant cell.

>is fat soluble and can lead to toxicity in excess amounts
It's as fat soluble as the "naturally occurring form" hence work on developing more lipophillic derivatives like sulbutiamine. Regardless everything can lead to toxicity in excess amounts and presence or lack of fat solubility don't guarantee a lower threshold or absence of toxicity either. You mentioned niacin previously and even that can have toxic effects due to for example methyl group depletion from formation of the methylnicotinamide metabolite.

Hey dickless, the fibre in complex carbs slows down the absorption rate of simple sugars so you don't end up with the same short term blood glucose spike when you ingest something that doesn't have fibre and is all simple carbs.

There's also more vitamins and minerals and whole grains due to less processing. That's the point.

This is most accurate

Japan in traditional eating is very very simple and strict

Meat is for health reasons nearly never, in fact animal sources of food are nearly none with fish being what meat is mostly eaten
Rice, tofu, and many many beans, grains and greans mostly steamed

Looking at what 0p posted you think western lifestyle it is anything but no cheese it stinks like death and mainly ricemilk

A healthy amount of meat/fish from what i recall is about one portion nearly every 60/75 days and never really any confections or bread

Carbs are not bad. Everything with corn syrup is. Soy is not bad. Sodium is not bad given that you are not eating salt and drinking soy sauce

Let's be honest : few countries in the world eat so many industrialized products to the extent americans and mexicans do (I'm the latter, but travel to the former) . Yes, you're eating pasta, but youre buying a can of high fructose sauce. Yes, you're eating a hamburger, but you're seasoning it with that mortal thing called ketchup. Yes, you're just eating popcorn, but they are bathed in butter and drinking a large soda.
>>
>>9310879
Have you ever tried Japanese sweets? They're flat as fuck for a western palate. Even Japanese sodas are not that sweet.

This, among other things. Food's contribution to life expectancy and most diseases is grossly overestimated, genetics play the largest role in these by far.
>>
>>9310851
There's also the theory that asian people have quicker metabolism
>>
I know that a lot of people get triggered by the word superfood, but that's what rice is.

Many times I've eaten rice I felt slimmer and healthier the next day.

The average Japanese person eats seafood / meat / rice and veg.

The average American eats sloppy Joe's, McDonalds and a bunch of fried shit at least 4-5 times per week.

It's not exactly difficult to spot the differences in diet.
>>
>>9310851
sodium is really the only bad ingredient you listed and you can literally dilute it with a bottle of water afterwards. With food, whether its pizza, candy bars, ice cream, fried chicken, mac and cheese (all shit I eat weekly) it comes down to moderation. Bottom line. I eat all that junk food and I've probably gained 5 pounds total over the last 7 years. The USA is so fucking fat because people eat 3 pounds of food everytime they sit down and the servings are so big over here. Moderation in what you eat is the key, bar none.
