The same way you appreciate anything else: get more experience. Travel. Get out and eat more. All different kinds of places: street stalls, hole-in-the-wall places, famous restaurants, local specialties, etc.
And sadly price is no indicator of quality. I've had god-tier meals for under $10 and I've had $50 plates that were no better than a diner.
