Sugar is a preservative, so how much sugar do I add to milk to make it last longer and also have more calories? I wondered why ice cream last a year and milk expires in a month, it's because of the sugar and salt.

Or, how do I make milk-icecream with sugar and no fat?
I really want to eat milk as my main food but it expires too soon. And I hate buying lactase-free milk (which also lasts longer than regular for some reason.)

That would be sherbet or gelato at best and not ice cream.

Buy UHT milk; It tastes like crap (no different from normal milk, then) but it has a shelf life of about six months.
Or buy powdered milk.
Or buy less milk and go shopping more often.

I wanna play devils advocate
ice cream lasts longer because preservatives
even if you put it in the fridge it won't change colors as quickly as milk does
sugar isn't a preservative, salt is, not sure if you want salty milk, sugar will make it go bad faster
if you're using it as a main food source, how does it go bad before you've finished it off?

Ty for your careful response and activism,
I have lactose intolerance. Lactose-free milk is more expensive.
Again, ty. I am appreciative for preventing me from putting loads of sugar in all my milk.

>sugar isn't a preservative
Sugar is an excellent preservative. Just like salt it kills via osmotic pressure.
Educate yourself. I suggest starting here.

Have you tried... Freezing milk?
Anyway, congrats on finding trait that explains why fruit preserves... preserve.
