Actually Mexico was the fattest a few years ago, but the US has retaken the top spot according to the latest statistics.
>The obesity rate for American adults (aged 15 and over) came in at a whopping 38.2%, which puts the birthplace of the hamburger and the Cronut at the top of the heftiest-nations-in-the-world rankings, according to an updated survey from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
>Running at a not-too-close second is border pal Mexico, with 32.4% of population considered obese, followed by New Zealand, Hungary and Australia (the U.K. comes in at No. 6). The skinniest nations are Japan, with a tiny 3.7% of the population tipping the scales, followed by India, Korea, Indonesia and China. And across much of Europe, less than 20% of the population can be considered obese

First of all lemon is not being cooked, they just placed it there before serving so you squeeze a bit of it on your plate then remove it.
Then about shrimps and shellfish not being prepared for eating in one bite is part of the fun of the dish. Plus Shrimp heads are a delicacy, and finding a shellfish casually stuffed with rice is one of the best bites in the thing.
Its a very rustic dish. Picky faggots like you need not apply. Plus Spain invented the term colonizing so you can get fucked about that kek.

You guys mix seafood and meat in your paellas and fideua? I don't think i can dig that.
>>9281329
It's more a Med Spanish thingie, we call mar i montanya (mountain and sea) and it can end very delicious. It really goes well with white fish and other mild seafood.
This one is of my prefered too, pig feets with lobster, sofrito, picada and snail. I can see than some people can be shocked and disgusted, but it goes well.
>>9281368
I was asking you because i'm from Alicante myself and we don't mix that ever. The one you posted here sounds too good tho.
>>9281407
>>9281407
Another dish I can't live without, noodles with a sofrito, black ink and calamari/squid.
>>9281417
I was thinking you must be catalan because I don't think we do that in C.Valenciana. Seguro que está buenÃsimo también.
I'm from the furthest town possible in Alicante without it becoming murcia, and there's this very typical way of making paella which is pic related.
It's basically chicken paella with some local sausages+scrambled eggs then put in the oven. It's damn good, but I haven't put myself into doing it yet.
>>9281287
Thanks! I want to go to Spain. Where is the best to go? Another anon told me the North is beautiful in the summer and less touristy.
>>9281489
If you don't even think about going south during summer if you're not gonna strictly be near the sea.
And yeah, north coast is a better deal during the summer. I'd avoid both Madrid and Barcelona during these months too. Madrid is unbearably hot and Barcelona must be swarming with tourists.
Regarding /ck/ recommendations, i'm no expert but food is great in general in Spain, and north has the "finesse" vibe to its food, while rations being quite great. Don't expect tapas at all tho.
>>9281514
Thanks. What's the best time of year overall to visit Spain? May?
What about the winter? Is it too cold then? I like to take a trip around Christmas/New Years since I have no friends or family.
Tapas is a Southern thing?
>>9281464
That's an interesting way to do that.
I should study more about our own country, it's full of bizarre ways to cook stuff, every little village has some dish than only it's made there...
>>9281489
The north has some of the best cuisine in Spain (the best being the med part, i'm totally biased tough), Pais Vasco does a lot of interesting fish dishes and has the pintxos than are a bit like tapas but not really, Cantabria and Asturias are great too but are less known, but the king in seafood is Galicia, very comfy and with a very "Keltic" feel, Pulpo a feria is delicious and very simple.
>>9281527
Thanks. Is the med very touristy? I imagine it all is but just hate to travel to places that are overrun. I speak decent Spanish and don't need the English crutch either.
>>9281541
In the summer? Yeah, I would avoid it unless you want to party. The north at summer is more comfy and much less overrun with drunk brits doing stupid things. Depending of what you want, it's a very solid trip, specially if you like Green and nature parks.

Well, USA has a young culture , they change things too fast and don't really have much traditions, while Spain is the other way around.all the immigration only makes it worse because they have the flavour of the month stuff happening all the time and don't really refine stuff. But I'm sure in some of the crazy parts you will find the true flavours of USA, like Loisiana or Florida swamp dwellers, I would avoid big cities specially.

But yeah, there's lots in Spain and i never get enough of it. I was in Cadiz last september and tried these mofos for the first time ever. I thought it was a delicacy.

>>9282074
They are a good little treat, I really hate to eat camarones without being fried, the exosqueleton ends wonky, but my father loved them. For what I seen of USA trash food, it wasn't very apealing, Tacos, some fried food, some burgers in more "high" quality fast food places, I hate most of the breads there, quite soggy and sweet. But then I never eat in a mcdonalds or related unless I'm treated, and then only some select stuff like the nuggets or the mcflurry (I love that stuff).
Granada, not so far from Cadiz, it's quite a good city for tapeo, if I recall well they would give you a free tapa with every drink, a nice way to taste the feel of the city (and apart is quite a looker, lots of cool stuff to see).
>>9282126
I found trash food in USA to be tasty and easy to like. Plus the not-so-trash burgers in bars were something to write home about for me.
I know granada is the Spanish capital for tapas, but couldn't really experiment this to its fullest when i went there in a high school trip. I know it's a great city, so anyone reading this circlejerk of a conversation should know Granada is such a great bite of Spain, in lots of senses.

I never tasted the italian version, but I know these kind of sausages, it's very good if you don't mind that it's basically just blood. It's kindda hard to describe how it tastes, it's not metallic, but it indeed has a particular flavour that could probably disgust people if they are not used to it. I usually eat it with mashed potatoes, some caramelized onions, and applesauce.
Duck breast with vinegar sauce and gratin dauphinois, is probably one of my favourite french dish.
On a side note, I was lucky to travel a bit, and against all stupid clichés, US has tons of good restaurants, and nice specialities (some Southern dishes were a blast). Now I'm living in Montréal, and FUCK this city, I followed the advice of every resident here for good place to eat "traditional dishes" and it's always "okay" at the very best or fucking expensive. Even their foreign food restaurant are meh, like I ate at the "best pizzeria in Montreal", and yeah it was a good pizza (with quite the thick dough unfortunately, I don't know why they love that so much). How the hell is that four layers
>>9291523
I don't know I just grabbed the image from the internet
perhaps it thinks that the fruit and sponge in jelly are two separate layers?
or maybe the sprinkles count as their own layers?

Not op but I hate ketchup, too sweet. I would gobble it just like the way it is.
Baked beans are usually a lunch thing for me, along side something like bbq or a burger.
Getting some Danish cuisine up in here: this is our national dish - Stegt flæsk med persillesovs (Fried pork with parsley-sauce)

From Danish cuisine you might also get a proper Danish hotdog, commonly from the hotdog stands scattered around Copenhagen.
Nothing better than being 10 years old, getting back to your family's house after playing football with your cousins and seeing your uncles finish up some legendary dogs on the grill in the garden.

Yeah I mean I'm American too, but the meal is not that different from the UK christmas version. I've eaten it home cooked in the UK.
But the addition of soul food items like greens and the general increase in butter and salt imo makes the American version much better.
>>9285629
had this home cooked in the north of France. Great dish.

Had the greatest gyro of my life at some random souvlaki place in Rethymno, Crete. Truly next-level compared to gyros I've had in farther west Europe and the US
>>9293160
>mash, not roast potatoes
>no bread sauce
>shit gravy
>no christmas pud
>no devil's on horseback or pigs in blankets
>>9293169
I think part of this is that my palette was formed under American conditions, so to Brits what tastes amazing and represents the main event of these meals (pigs in blankets etc) just registers as kinda bland to me. I watched people in the UK shovel pork pies almost coming and then I eat a big slice, and I'm like eh it's fine.
>not gravy
You arent a southern woofter are you?
we call this laplap in Vanuatu. it's usually a root crop like yam or cassava or banana made into a paste with coconut milk then wrapped in leaves before being put in a earth oven with hot stones.
finally fill the center with coconut milk to dip your pieces of laplap in to sweeten it.
Ohio cuisine for you folks. This is a three-way

I don't get the appeal of the beans. That's something I'd definitely eat around and then leave on my plate. The rest looks fantastic, though.

My wife makes a mean meat pie that looks like that. Lamb, pork, and potatoes. With ketchup, it's god tier. Kinda like a meatloaf, only crusty too.

Japan takes food education deadly seriously. Lunchtime at school is considered a lesson like any of the others. Kids are on rotation to serve up the food, lay it out, read out the menu/ingredients and clean the school afterwards. City board of educations hire dietitians and give the kids 500-600kcal of fresh-cooked food made from locally sourced ingredients every day which is prepared in the school kitchens on site. Nothing brought in is frozen, microwaved or prepackaged. Meal is usually
>bowl of rice or a bread roll
>some sort of fish, meat or protein (usually baked, steamed, sauteed, only something fried once every week)
>some sort of soup, stew, curry, or liquid dish packed full of vegetables
>some veges or a salad
>milk
From the start they drill into the kids that no-one's allowed to leave anything on their plate. Don't like broccoli? Well too fucking bad, you're eating it. Everyone else in class is eating it so you sure as shit have to. I've seen kids gagging and crying while shoveling food into their mouths that they don't like because it's just what you gotta do.
Once a week or two you go to the set "lunch room" to eat with your class, where a school chef or Home Ec teacher does a lesson about healthy eating while you eat. They also spend 1/3rd of their PE lessons indoors studying healthy eating.
They have compulsory Home Ec classes from 4th grade where they learn to cook and sew. By 5th grade they're taught how to make basic dishes, fillet meat, clean and gut fish etc.
No-one really drinks soda in Japan. Kids are raised drinking tea and that's it.
All through school until they finish high school snacks and unhealthy foods are banned from school grounds. No chips, no chocolates, no snacks. You bring that shit your homeroom teacher makes sure as shit that you don't do it again. Keep in mind the homeroom teachers spend more time with the kids than the parents/guardians usually do in Japan.
They don't fuck around.
