Is it safe to leave raw chicken in the fridge for 24 hours?
Right now (9PM) I have frozen chicken in the fridge that I am defrosting, but I don't plan on cooking it until 5PM tomorrow.

Yes
the fuck do you think?
Do you normally cook all the chicken you buy within 24 hours of buying it?
Yes, in fact after brining a whole bird I'll leave it in the fridge for like a day so the skin can dry out and get taut so it's crispy

No, I normally freeze it.

Don't listen to these trolls. Supermarkets have special radiation lights that keep chicken fresh. Without these, such as in your fridge, chicken goes bad within 6 hours. This can kill you!!!

Just make sure to wash it after leaving it in the fridge that long.

looks comfy

Fuck off, Tom.

as long as it isn't soaking in its own water as it defrosts, yes. stick it on a rack on a pan so the water drips off.

Don't listen to this idiot.
The special lights we use in the freezers don't keep the chicken carcass fresh.
They keep them FROM REANIMATING.
Your fridge light turns off when you close the door, do you want a zombie chicken in your fridge?

Yes. You need to cook or freeze raw chicken within 2-3 days. Cooked chicken will last refrigerated for an additional 3 days. On day 4 or 5, cooked chicken will start to taste off, but still be relatively safe to eat. Beyond that you're taking a chance. Raw chicken can be frozen for 6 months on average before it gets freezer burned. You don't want to freeze, thaw, then freeze it again because the clock is still cumulatively ticking every day it is in the unfrozen state. It is a good idea to store raw meat on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator to mitigate cross contamination in case it leaks.
