there's a costco closer to where I live than a grocery store. Unless you are feeding 4+ there's really no reason to primarily shop at a costco

Same. I live by myself. I lift toilet paper, trash bags, cleaning supplies, and even the odd disposable utensil from my work place. And since I conserve what I use and I'm not at home I don't use them often.
I don't buy food in bulk, but when I do I eat 100% of what I buy and I limit my budget to $30 grocery bill a week.
