Alcohol is a drug before it is an item of food. You don't need to like the taste of shrooms to covet the effects

Just drink it out of the bottle. Do it in the winter a few times. You'll start enjoying that burn.

That's only true if you exclusively drink the cheapest swill like some sort of high school kid. Anything decent is more of a food item than an intoxicant.

That being said if I was determined to drink on a budget I'd probably almost exclusively drink Raynal VSOP brandy rather than any whisky since it has the best price to taste ratio of anything I've tried. If I don't care as much about spending then I'm mostly drinking 10 year old single malts.
