I do, it's good on some sandwiches (like banh-mi) and even just bread. I also like to eat it on hard boiled eggs sometimes.

Maybe you just haven't found a recipe you like.

That's really funny because in France it's really not a fancy meal, it's quite on the opposite side, usually associated with a beer and France's redneck equivalente

But you're right about making you're own, it's really a good idea.
As for (OP) you should try higher quality pâté, either by buying it in local butchery or similar store, making your own or having a small trip in the south west or the Centre of France were meat is god-tier.

I live a few miles away from a butchers that makes a pate that wins best in country so I get to enjoy that on occasion really easily, just get some bread or crackers and some chutneys

I bought some pate to put on a homemade banh mi but when I opened it up it smelled so much like cat food that I couldn't bring myself to eat it and ended up just giving it to the cat.
