Some fat helps aquisition of fat soluble nutrients. But it should be fatty foods like nuts or tahini, not extracted oil. Five walnut hales is enough for a big salad. When I'm not being a weirdo just eating a chunk of lettuce or cabbage, I like to make a dressing with a couple tablespoons tahini. But if I skip that, my caloric budge allows for a dish of chocolate banana nicecream later :D

Salad dressing often has more calories than the stuff it goes on.

No, it's just sesame seeds, ground. Fatty stuff like that gets runny when the particle size gets small enough. You can try it with any nut if you have a sufficiently torquey blender or food processor, or mortar and pestle and patience.

Wow, I'm actually still here to reply. And nope. The closest thing we have to eating bread in a salad is rusk with chopped tomatoes on top.
Generally speak, salad for us is served after the meal and is not accompanied with bread, which is eaten with the meal proper. Then fruits/cheese after the salad, but still no bread.
