Its saturday night and in true /ck/ fashion i'm getting shitfaced. Today's alcohol of choice is rum and while I am enjoying this Lamb's Navy Rum i'm sure /ck/ is far more educated on the finer chocies of rum.
So riddle me this /ck/ - what are your go-to rums? In addition when you want that premium taste what do you reach for? On the cheap side Kraken tickles me the right way even though it is massively spiced which triggers the elitists. On the more expensive side of things diplomatico (pic related) is my drink of choice. I reserve (heh) diplomatico either for warming up and for those really comfy times.
Sitting in a room with low lighting on a stormy night sipping diplomatico while reading is quite a magical experience personally.

If you want cheap rum that doesn't taste like napalm kraken is not a bad choice - especially given it mixes so well. That said I do agree with you in so much that if you want to drink rum neat kraken isn't an ideal choice.

Yeah, I'd drink Kraken over Bacardi anyday. Appleton's is okay.
In the not-quite-rum category, Cachaça is pretty tasty stuff but seems mostly unknown in North America.

Diplomatico is the shit. It's a sin to mix it, but I was jonesing for a Zombie earlier and didn't have any other aged rum on hand. It was still phenomenal. May the sugarcane gods forgive me.

Love me some cachaça, esp. in a caipirinha. You ever tried arrack? It's a similar rumlike spirit and it's fantastically funky. It's tough to get where I live, but I run across a lonely bottle of it occasionally.
