Food wasn't always so consistently available so when a bounty was to be had it was often preserved in some way or another. While not as tasty as other methods of preparation, not so tasty food is better than no food.
Nothing. We simply boil fish more than you would.

so why do they still make it
>>9067329
Acquired taste.
>>9067331
that's not an answer to "why do they still make it" that's an answer to "how do people eat this stuff"
>>9067337
Because people still buy it
>>9067342
Why do they buy it

Burgerlander here, but Dad grew up in UK during post WWII rationing (yes I'm old). He ate jellied eels, eel pie, etc. It's an acquired taste no doubt, but I love stinky stilton and gorgonzola, so who am I to judge? Wifey digs on natto, which I find disgusting. Don't like it, don't eat it. Pretty simple.

Why does anyone buy anything faggot?
>>9067353
eel pie seems ok but jellied eel? no way jose
>>9067369
You sure? Eel pie is pretty freaky.
>>9067378

>>9067383
It's just boiled fish in gelatin
