I don't know about this. Pretty much every girl I've dated and most I know are able to make at least a few delicious things. Their issues came from not cooking on a regular basis, so they have no discipline about it. Cooking is incredibly cost effective if you cook most of your meals. If you have to go out shopping for every ingredient you need for a meal once every two weeks it's much less cost effective, and since you're not in a rhythm of cooking it'll take you two hours to make a meal that could have been done in 40 min. That's been my experience. When they do cook it's usually pretty good, but they cook infrequently enough that they overspend on ingredients that won't be used efficiently (unused stuff going bad in the fridge), and it takes them forever to get a meal on the table. Because of this cooking really isn't a good use of their time. I'll cook. They can blow me after.

Because of that I made damn sure to learn how to cook healthy meals from scratch. I shop once or twice a month, mostly bc I hate to go out, but in a big way to save money buy buying in bulk what I need and working what I have into meals for the month. I like to do big group meals. It gets pretty frustrating. For example, on days you want to just go to bed at 7am, you really want to depend on her to simply feed/walk the dog, make sure the front doors are locked, the laundry room door is closed, turn off the TV/speakers/cable box/computers, etc ....but you can't. I can't remember the last time I went to bed early and stayed there. For example, I went to bed at 7pm tonight. The wife went to bed 20 minutes ago. Let me give you some personal insight on the matter.
I've been with my wife for 10 years now. We met in high school, and I got her pregnant.
She is and always has been a lazy person and a shit cook. I wouldn't even mind eating shit food if she at least made it on time. But she rarely did.
We'd get into screaming arguments constantly about how lazy and worthless she was. I felt like an asshole for it, but goddamn she was a real piece of work. The only reason I dealt with all this was for the kids, and also because the sex is great.
But one night, I got fed up. Not only did she get drunk, neglect the kids, and made me top Ramen for dinner, but she decided to give me attitude too. She was being real fucking bitchy. So I told my grandparents to keep an eye on the kids and told my wife we were going to go out and have dinner together. I drove maybe 3 blocks to a quiet area (we live in Oregon, it's not hard to find a quiet field) and I got out of the car, went around like I was going to open her door for her and let her out, and I just beat the shit out of her while she was still seatbelted. After a few punches, I asked her if she wanted to go back to her parents. She started screaming and yelling and said yes, so I beat the shit out of her again. Then I asked her what she wanted to do. She finally got smart and said she wanted to go home. So I took her home and dared her to start trouble. I even handed her my cellphone and dialed her mom's number on the drive home. I made her talk to her mom, while daring her to fucking say something.
Before that incident, I had never laid a hand on her. But I had always threatened it. I told her "one of these days, if you don't straighten up, I'm going to lay hands on you."
All my meals have been on time, and she just recently tried to make a meatloaf. It was mediocre, but I was just thrilled that she tried.

The issues they had were that they only knew how to cook a limited set of things, and for them cooking was an event instead of a day to day thing. I can open the fridge, look at what we have and make probably one of 20 possible decent meals in under an hour. Pretty much every girl I've been with would have to go out and shop for the specific ingredients needed for whatever she would cook, and it would take her hours to make a meal. It would be good, but not practical on a day to day basis. On a day to day basis they favored foods that could be eaten as is or with minimal prep/cooking. They just weren't in the habit of thinking about what they were going to cook beforehand unless it was a special occasion.
Even the girl I married is like this. When she cooks it's pretty good. But it's an event - she needs a few hours to decide what she's gonna make, get the ingredients and make a meal. The meal will be great, but this approach makes her useless for cooking on a day to day basis.

A proper chef can make simple food as well. Risotto is one of those fine examples. You'll be paying $20 at an Italian restaurant, when you can make it at home and it will taste just as good if not better.

Agreed, but I still maintain there is a difference between restaurant food and home cooking, and that's a good thing. Restaurant food tends to be more about wow factor, the salt and fat are ramped up, and presentation really matters. It's more like the way you cook for guests as opposed to how you eat on a day to day basis. I prefer my day to day meals a lot lower on the fat and salt, and much heavier on the vegetable matter. If I cooked restaurant style food on a day to day basis I'd be a fatty with high cholesterol.
