if you can, rice and beans make a complete protein and are extremely cheap/easy to make. lentils don't require soaking, and you can make both in a single pot.

you can add oatmeal in with your bread perhaps to vary it. you can also make pasta out of flour.

when you do get money, buy the seasons. google what's in season, it'll be cheaper.

Slice up the onions thinly, coat in flour, fry in oil, salt and pepper. You can do the same thing when making oatmeal, add less water/milk to make it thick, make it savory or add brown sugar or syrup, fry it up. I hope you have enough butter or oil.

Make a soup.

Fry the onions until they're really brown.

Add water, boil, simmer
