ITT: regional foods that aren't from your region
country ham biscuit
I could kill that right now
god that looks good
>>9036904
gas station country ham biscuits are the greatest fast food sandwiches, hands down
Midwestfag here. I would love to try a lobster roll, but have never seen any around here. Also can't afford to buy a lobster to make one at home.
>>9037011
>start local restaurant selling lobster rolls
>profit
They're pretty good though. Hope you try one some time.
>>9037011
>can't afford to buy a lobster
A tail "in season," is like 6 bucks, guy.
That being said, better be hot in butter rather than cold in mayo.
>>9036913
true that brother
in fact, pretty much any gas station biscuit is great if it's fresh, but country ham is the GOAT
>>9037077
The only thing that might be better is a good chicken biscuit, but it has to be some pretty damn good chicken, which is harder to find than good ham.
I'm gonna get endless shit for this, but whatever.
Virginia here.
I want whole hog or any good pork BBQ.
Virginia is unfortunately a destitute shithole when it comes to food. All talent either moves north towards DC or south towards states that can grill worth a damn.
The sad part is how large of a pork industry we have.
Sic semper shitty salami.
>>9037092
chick-fil-a biscuits are good as fuck, but it still doesn't beat country ham
there's also a fast food place around here called jack's (not jack in the box) that has pretty good chicken biscuits
>>9037131
i just planned on going to chick fil a tomorrow to get one and then i realized tomorrow is sunday
it's always fuckin sunday
>>9037127
If you're any where near fredericksburg, there are a few places that sell whole pigs just for this, already cleaned up and dead ready for the grill. It's pretty popular there. But like you said it's more near DC
>>9036895
>just a biscuit
>no bacon/sausage gravy
you're really missing out, anon
>>9037664
Why the fuck would you put gravy on a country ham biscuit you lardass? Do you not see the country ham in the center of it? Is it not enough fucking fat for your huge ass? It's not "just a biscuit" it's obviously a biscuit with country ham in it and butter, making it a sandwich. You don't cover a sandwich in gravy. Go be fat some where else. You're like the guy who posts in a "make your own pizza" thread saying PIZZA SUCKS
I hate white people and I will never have a mint Julep with my scrambled eggs.
>>9037011
Man that looks good
>>9036913
The gas station down the road had biscuits and gravy sandwiches. It was a biscuit filled with sausage gravy. I loved those things.
>>9037823
Gravy makes most things better
>>9037823
country ham egg and cheese biscuits are the best breakfast
Didn't realize this was a regional thing until recently, but salmon patties.
Talked to a dude from Seattle, and he had no concept of this shit. Great on a biscuit, or at dinner and supper with sides. Goes great with mustard, too.
>>9036895
Would devour
>>9039137
these and just fish cakes in general work great as a burger if you want some variation.
>>9039137
Looks delicious.
>>9036895
Gumbo. Not much of it around where I'm from. In the South, but I'm perched up in Appalachia and gumbo is the food of the Low Country. It's always been damn good whenever I've had it though.
>>9037127
>tfw you live in NC
>country ham biscuits and pork BBQ erry'where
Feels good man.
>>9039252
Northwest georgia here. Gumbo isn't too common in these parts either.
Going to also echo the love for country ham.
>>9036895

These are good if you make them at home with actual ingredients. Skyline is trash

God I used to love jacks before they started hiring nothing but complete retards who bake the biscuits into hardened rocks
St Louis

>>9039462
Is that broccoli under there?
Rural Texas here, I want to curry and gyros so freaking badly.
>>9039385
Not with fucking cinnamon though.
>>9039407

>>9039530

>>9039609
Looks absolutely disgusting
>>9039646
Well its appearance certainly lives up to the name.
>>9039739
don't knock it till you try it
>>9036895
I hate ham so much. I'll never understand how people can eat straight up steaks of the stuff.
I want to try real poutine so bad! But life in south ga means not a whole lot of canucks around here
>>9039744
It's disgusting. What I wasn't expecting is that everything is incredibly sweet, on top of greasy and of a homogenous unpleasant texture
>>9039400
OP here, you posted food from my region. I think that means you win.
>>9039575
>bacon
That's dry-cured ham that's been fried on a griddle.
>>9040257
Its over rated, you aren't missing much
>>9037011
You live in the midwest, so you have the availability of deliciously soft and fresh, top split chicago poppyseed buns (for dogs). Just get a _MAINE_ or I guess Canadian lobster tail. They should be on special for under $10 at some point in the year, maybe even coming up for July 4th picnics! That's highly affordable. Butter toasted roll, meat, hot butter if it's really fresh. If not, go ahead and buy two lobsters and make the mayo version too, getting it good and chilled, top with chives and tarragon, to see which you like best.
>>9040324
Looks incredible. I've tried making it but I can't find actual cheese curd around here so I use fresh mozzarella instead. It's not terrible but I want the real thing
>>9039609
You from Fall River?
>>9039629
>Scones are sweet, American biscuits are savory and buttery.
Scones can be sweet or savory. American biscuits can be flaky, cheesey, honeyed, rising or drop biscuits. Anything goes dude.
There is little difference in many kinds of scones and american biscuits as a matter of fact. From cream to buttermilk, it is chef's perogative. I'd say scones are mostly handmade, where biscuits in the US use a cheat of some sort more often and not.
My favorite regional food goes from Houston through Lake Charles through Louisiana and maybe a little bit more on I-10 through the Alaga.
Groceries and convenience stores have hot chafing dishes of fresh boudin, and restaurants make boudin balls. All day every day, it's a savory snack that hits the spice factor and that funkiness from game meat or liver. ADORE IT. That's something I really miss.
Linked is a travel guide if you're road tripping I-10.

>>9039693
Not to sound like a jew but cheese does not belong inside of meat, it fucking ruins how both are cooked. Just melt the cheese on top of the burger like a decent human being and quit trying to showboat like some greasy David Blaine.
>>9040370
My God man, I haven't been to Jerry Lee's in so long. We used to pick up boudin and cracklins from there all the time and it was always great.
>>9039629
Scones are not sweet; if you're eating something sweet it is not a scone, trust me I wrote the book on scones.
The filling is meant to be sweet but can still be enjoyed with just butter/and or cream.
If your scone is sweet get fucking rid and start using a new recipe.
>>9040257
Just drive to Myrtle beach, that place is stock full of Quebecois
>>9036895
I'm from NC but live in NYC and this gave me intense cravings. I desperately want some Bojangles or Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen right now.
>>9037034
Do you know how expensive seafood can get here? We're the farthest from the ocean in the US. I can't even think of where I'd go to buy lobster that wasn't a restaurant.
>>9039693
Hey, MN here. Matt's juicy lucy's (the originator) is the fucking best.
>>9036895
I need a recipe that will produce perfect biscuits like this. Please help, anons
>>9040831
What a coincidence, I just rolled into Myrtle an hour ago. Not him though. Are there really a lot of French Canadians here? I've been a few times before and not met any. Where can I get poutine around here?
>>9037011
midwestfag here, I used to make a bunch of these when I worked in a sports bar/grill
>>9036895
That's just a bacon butty
>>9041519
>he doesn't know the difference between bacon and ham
sad

Central Illinois here; I either get them from Kroger or the local seafood shop.
red link biscuits
very small region of eastern ga and west bama
>>9041797

Moco loco
>>9041883
It's ham, retard. It says so in the OP.
>>9041819
Nwga too, friend.
>>9036895
Weck, Worscht un Woi
It is a sausage, served with a bun and a glass of wine. The sausage is Bologna sausage, the wine is the wine made at the wineyard and the bun is a bun. Popular in the wine areas of Germany on wineyards, it is the traditional way of drinking German wine.
>>9037127
Virginia ham is pretty good
You guys also have crabs/oysters from the Chesapeake Bay
>>9041819
Oh fuck yes red links! The Hardee's here has them from time to time
>>9037011
No joke but seasonally, here in CT McDonald's sells them. The problem is they're really skimpy. It's like a fistful of meat in a hotdog bun. The problem is that good, meaty ones cost a shitload, like $18-25
>>9040942
Hell yeah Matt's rules. 4$ two hearted pints
>>9040860
>I can't even think of where I'd go to buy lobster that wasn't a restaurant.
The grocery store. I think even walmart might have it for fucks sake.
Wisconsin

NYC, especially the Bronx

I don't live within 500 miles of any of these places

Fish patties are invented for fish that otherwise taste like shit, like pike. Why would someone do this to salmon?!?!??!
>>9043472
canned salmon I suppose
>>9036895
The next time I visit my parents in northeast Georgia I'm totally getting some country ham from this nice lil corner grocery in the mountains so I can make that shit.
>>9039487
LITERALLY the only way hotdogs are served in my region. I'm ok with that.
Wet Burrito
>>9043472
also pike is pretty good.
can prolly make a sucker into a decent fish patty.
>>9043342

Heard it started getting popular in California a few years ago, but if it wasn't served up by at least 1000lbs of people in 3 pairs of flip flops at most I don't trust it.
>>9039462
it's fucking taylor ham asshole
>>9044941
>can't legally call it ham
Why do you insist on being wrong?
>>9044940
Poke bowls have become really popular. I'm a Haole but I'm a massive Hawaiiboo. Love plate lunches and pretty much all of it. Kailua pork loco moco is the best! Even have the portraits of the king and queen hanging in my house
>>9044944
>It was developed in 1856[4] by John Taylor of Trenton, New Jersey, and sold as "Taylor Ham". Other producers entered the market, and subsequent food labeling regulations required Taylor to designate it as a "pork roll" alongside their competitors.
classic NJ corruption
>>9043354
jesus dude I miss Wisconsin food now. I must admit Seattle has its merits though, especially for someone as big into seafood as I.
Chicago style hot dogs, deep dish pizza, brats cooked in pbr, whatever the regional potato pancakes we had with fish fry are (not entirely like latkes), butter burgers, a lot of it I can do myself with the right ingredients though but damn senpai the stadium food I forgot all about.
>>9044997
>>9043354
As someone who grew up in the Midwest and doesn't care for seafood, Wisconsin is the greatest. Farms everywhere = $1.75 for a gallon of skim milk, $0.89/lb for split chicken breast, $2.50/lb of ground beef. Point in any direction and start walking, you can find beer, sausage, and cheese curds within 5 minutes.
The only downside is all the people who don't understand that you NEED to exercise if you're going to live past 30 in Wisco
>>9046035
>It's the greatest
>proceeds to list shit-tier ingredients
>>9040375
>like some greasy David Blaine
It's pronounced "Alton Brown" asshole.
>>9036895
That is NOT A FUCKING BISCUIT.
THAT'S A FUCKING SCONE.
STOP NAMING THINGS WRONG FUCKKK.
You Americans have massacred the English language.

>You Americans have massacred the English language.
Would you call it a... Boston Massacre?

>>9036895
i'm from new jersey. i've always wanted to try chicken fried steak, apparently a southern delicacy.
>>9039462
>pork roll sandwich
rename that to "taylor ham egg and cheese" thanks
>>9046130
You seem mad.
Why can't you come to grips with the fact that different cultures have differing terms for things? I don't sperg out when I hear a Brit call an "elevator" a "lift", so why would you sperg out over this?

Head on down to Bordentown.
I usually get the chicken fried steak (double portion) and eggs (over medium) with hash browns and toast (sourdough) and drown everything on Cholula. It'll run you about $20 with tip and drink, but it's worth it.
>>9046253
Cracker Barrel a shit.
>>9046217
Kek. If you want to learn England English vocabulary just babble like a nursemaid to a 2 year old toddler.
>>9046253

maybe if i'm ever slumming it in south jersey (hopefully never), but i live in bergen county, so that's not really a feasible trip for some steak. maybe one day.

A lot of my family goes in March during the break, I think that's the most popular time to go. I've only been in July and I saw a few Quebec plates (I've never seen a Canadian plate in the Carolinas outside of Myrtle Beach). Either way, I doubt you'll find poutine there, and if you do it'll probably be shit. You can't even find good poutine in Toronto.
>>9040313
>dry-cured ham
>fried on a griddle
Right. Bacon.
>>9046401
The overwhelming majority of bacon is not dry-cured, it's wet-cured.
Most of it is either put in a tank containing Wiltshire cure (invented in Wiltshire, England) or is injected with a similar liquid.
Also, bacon is made from either the belly or the loin. Ham comes from the leg.
>>9046179

Why does everything out of bongistan sound like its from a fucking cartoon?
>>9046442
I'm not sure why that matters.
Anon said "right, bacon". That implies that generally speaking, bacon and all ham are the same thing. Which they're clearly not. A single counterexample is meaningless when it comes to general discussion.
>>9046484
>dry-cured ham
>fried on a griddle
Which is a perfect description of bacon.
>>9046488
Did you forget the part in which ham comes from the leg whereas bacon is either the loin or the belly?
>>9046512
It all comes from the same animal and all tastes the same once it's been cured. There is literally no difference.
>>9046518
>all tastes the same once it's been cured.
Lolno.
the fat content, and therefore the flavor, of the different cuts is radically different. Not to mention that the loin is a very tender muscle whereas ham contains harder working muscles, so the texture will be very different as well. The belly contains both hardworking and tender muscle so streaky bacon will contain both textures.
