I bought this from a Japanese supermarket on a whim, I thought it would be mesh on both sides for grilling on an open flame.
The bottom is a tray, but has slits. Can someone please explain?
The bottom/Japanese instructions for reference

I can read Japanese, but the text is a little hard to read, I'm fairly certain, though, that it says to shove it up your ass.
It's a Fish Grill for stove-top grilling.

Classic fucking jokes.
It's actually a Japanese washboard. Women tend to use them for small undergarments.
NOT A COOKING INSTRUMENT!
I googled Japanese cooking mesh and I guess its for infrared cooking.

Google "yakifuumi" and the first result is the Amazon page for that exact thing.

Thanks for the reply.
Why does it have the slits at the bottom though? I would think that the fat would drop through and start a fat fire on an open stove cooker.

hahahahah
it is for gas stove top use
the slits in the bottom let the heat through but create catches also, so whatever drips down doesnt colect on your stove/flame up

Brilliant! Thanks for that, I had a second look at the bottom and I can see where the fat would sit. It's riveted so it collects and I guess would stay there unless I inverted the pan/grill.
Mystery solved, thanks anon.
