A butter tart is just a tiny pecan pie. Tourtiere is just a large meat pie. National dishes don't have to be unique, few dishes truly are, it's just stuff a lot of us happen to eat.
I'm a leaf and I don't fucking know what a tourtiere is. But Kraft Dinner, Nanaimo Bars, and Poutine have been a staple of my childhood.
