Drinking made me drink more water, even when sober. Like, before I drank a lot, I'd drink soda with every meal, or just when I was thirsty
But drinking made me save soda as a mixer/chaser. To avoid buying even more soda, I drank water all day and used the soda only for drinking purposes.

And that habit stuck with me even when on a sober streak.

I watched a 45 year old alcoholic die of cirrhosis yesterday. It was terrible. His lymphatic system had shut down along with his liver. He was swollen all over. The edema was so bad he was sweating waste crystals through his pores, and he was yellow all over. He died gracelessly, and in incredible pain.

Liquor Straight: Fermented and distilled whatever fruit or other sugar source I have available. If you're balkan, you know rakija which describes a lot of my brews. I'm drinking some ~15% undistilled banana wine right now. I've done apple/plum/grape rakija, strawberry mead, wine/brandy in the past
Liquor mixed: almost always neat, sometimes hot rakija with cooked sugar

growing the trifecta for absinthe now, going to triple distill some rakja to use

I consume 750ml of hard liquor daily and my tolerance is not as high as it could be.

Never even thought of this. Waking up drunk and forgetting to put water beside your bed for when you wake up fucking sucked. I'd always be met with a quarter full of coke and a few shots of vodka left and went to kms.

When I remembered to have it ready was an amazing thing to wake up to. Now I'm sober I think them experiences has put me off soda. First thing I want when thirsty is water.

Also does any one have a problem with not being able to just sip water? If I have water it's either 1 or 2 glasses over the sink or massive drinks from my massive bottle on my desk. Think it's due to doing it all the time when I was an alchy (only just a month sober so still am technically)

Straight: Any whiskey or tequila. My palette is not able to distinguish between cheap liquor and expensive liquor so I'm not picky.
Mixed: I don't generally drink mixes because I hate soda. I will drink rum and coke if other options aren't available (such as I'm at a wedding and the beers are shit and they won't serve straight liquor).

I did give whisky a concerned shot. At least I think I did. I've sampled 20+ different types of Irish and Scottish whiskey. I didn't agree with a single one of them. Some I didn't need a chaser to drink, but still hated, and some I needed a full glass of water just to avoid barfing. I pride myself in being a pretty open-minded guy, but I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can drink whiskey. I find it absolutely revolting.

As for wine, I've only sampled it a couple of times. Maybe 6-7 different types. Didn't like any of them, but unlike whiskey I won't claim to have enough experience to form a valid opinion..
