Would sprinkling a little MSG into a cup of tea bring out the subtle flavours more, or just make it taste salty?
It would make your tea taste like MSG.
msg tastes like chicken stock to me so if you want that flavor in your coffee sure go ahead

It might bring out umami to make you a proper cup of tea.
Depends on the tea. If it's a loose leaf green tea that already has umami notes then yes I could see it enhancing that flavor. If it's a sweeter green tea I would think that it would dull the flavor. Why don't you find out? And don't used bagged tea for fucks sake.
Why is food all about being MSG/Gluten free now?

Because a group a soccer moms decided to rally against it when they discovered it's in a lot of food.
The original study indicated it might be linked to an increase in headaches. It blew out of proportion, as always.

I've tried it in stale Japanese green tea to see if it would make it taste more like it should. It kind of worked. Basically it's just going to add more umami, so if you're looking for a brothy/seaweed character then sure.
It will taste straight up shite. What the fuck is wrong with americans
