So I have run into some confusion regarding the nutritional information on food labels recently - specifically the differences between products from different countries.
So let's talk Nutrition Information /ck/
Here's my specific example. I live in Canada but visited the US last weekend. While grocery shopping I grabbed some stuff that we have in Canada too but I was surprised to see that things like calorie content were different, even though the product itself was exactly the same.
Pic related, it's one of the things I bought. In Canada these things are 220cal each. But the box I bought in America says that they are 190cal. But they are identical. Same food, same size, same brand, exact same everything. So why the difference?
Do foods have a different screening process or labeling procedure in other countries? Where is the lower calorie count coming from? Are labeling regulations more lax in USA so companies round their totals down to look better? I'm really curious now. Anyway, thanks /ck/
Pics or it didn't happen.
Specifically one of each ND label and each ingredients list.

That is literally not possible.
I did 10 seconds of Googling, and it seems like bars are 42g in the USA and 46g in Canada.

I don't have it on me right this second to take a comparison shot, unfortunately.
But I really have seen this. I like having Quest Bars in my gym bag for example. Even the same bars in the same flavours are different. Cookies and Cream Quest bar in Canada is 210cal. The ones I bought at a GNC in the states? 190.

Ah see now there's something that makes more sense. I was looking and ingredients, calories, etc. But tiny differences like grams must have escaped my notice. I wonder what the point of SUCH a tiny difference in size would be?
Have you checked to make sure the serving size that label is based on is the same. While you can't change the chemistry of foods, different countries do have different laws regarding labeling and serving sizes.
Actually that's another good point; are you sure they're exactly the same? Oreos in Canada and Oreos in the US are completely different.

A subtle effort to get Americans to eat less? I don't know.

>hurr durr [the difference in size] escaped my notice durrrrrrr
Then don't lie and say >>8959774
>product itself was exactly the same... same size... exact same everything
especially if you didn't do the bare minimum of checking the fucking sizes. Goddamn, you're the load your mother should have swallowed.

>UNBLEACHED ENRICHED FLOUR, SUGAR, PALM, AND/OR CANOLA OIL, COCOA, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, BAKING SODA, CORNSTARCH, SALT, SOY LECITHIN, VANILLIN
>WHEAT FLOUR, SUGAR, MODIFIED PALM OIL, VEGETABLE OIL, COCOA, GLUCOSE FRUCTOSE, SOY LECITHIN, CORN STARCH, SALT, BAKING SODA, AMMONIUM BICARBONATE, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOUR.
What is "completely" different here?

By same size I meant serving size being "one bar" or that side by side they were basically indistinguishable. But you are right in that I fucked up something obvious, I do genuinely feel dumb right now. That one's entirely on me

Aw. Now you've made me feel bad for being mean. I'm sorry. Forgive me?
