Would you believe it, in that other British "cuisine" thread recently, the Bongs actually seriously claimed they invented lasagna and Curry! That was a funny day....

It might be the species of fish or even the climate. The British fish and chips had a lovely flaky texture and delicate flavor. The batter was crispy and crunchy, the Australian batter was like corndog batter.
Maybe even the potato variety is just better suited to the UK.
I'm allowing a thumbs up for the Brits, just this once.

Brits didn't invent curry, they re-invented it.
The curry pastes and powders we take for granted were invented by Brits, and their Victorian-era mania for categorising everything defined what constituted curry X as opposed to curry Y.
So no, they didn't invent curry, but they standardised it, documented it and found a way to bring its distinct flavours to the world.

this is one of the most blatant lies Ive ever read. Those pastes and powders were invented by Indians like 4000 years ago, when you Britards were still munching on tree bark and grass.

I'm not British, I'm Indian Malay. And I'm pretty sure I know more about my people's food and history than you.

>>8947736
Queen Victoria was enamoured of India and was learning to speak and write Hindi at the time of her death. Her last servant was Indian and the last thing she ever wrote was in Hindi. Yes, there were Indian immigrants in the U.K. in the 1800's.

>>8947742
Traditionally, these curries were made with whichever spices came to hand. Some areas had access to particular spices that loaned their curries a specific flavour. Certain groups had dietary restrictions (Hindus will not eat beef, mussulmans will not eat pork, Sikhs will eat anything but have a strong tradition of vegetarian food, etc.). The Punjab did not have coconuts or seafood, so their curries were different to Goan curries.

It was Brits that had served with the Raj then returned home that created the demand for standardised, predictable flavours in curry, and it was this demand that led to curry powders being created.

India and Britain had what was possibly the greatest example of cultural interchange in history. Part of that interchange was the Brits taking the idea of flavouring stews with specific blends of spices, and running with it.

Sorry, my friend, but although your claim is rooted in truth, it's not actually correct.

That's what happens when dental "insurance" is a monthly payment that pays for yearly cleanings and any other procedure rapes your wallet. Dental insurance is an installment plan paying for cleanings. Filling a cavity will still cost you $600.00. Most just let their teeth rot until one becomes infected and they have it pulled or pull it themselves.

>>
>>8948047
Unfortunately never, the Libs have gone real fucking soft ever since Howard was in power.

What fucking gets me is that these refugees cross an entire fucking ocean just to get here, if they are truly refugees and in need to just be safe they would be stopping at the first place and staying there but they just keep on fucking going until they get here, they know we're soft and that we'll give them free money just for being an Arab or African, they shit in the face of people actually deserving refugee status and people that have waited their turn, I have a couple of Ethiopian mates (who were refugee's themselves, just not boat ones, they waited their turn in the camps in Africa and then came over by plane cause they actually got a visa) who fucking hate how these fucking boat refugees take advantage of us.

Sounds like how Texans and Mexican who came over legally feel about "wetbacks" (the derogatory term for mexicans who sneak across the Rio Grande river into Texas). >>8948114
Yeah, we have those same kinds of problems but with illegal mexicans. It's not so bad in the smaller towns, but in the cities, holy shit, it's pretty bad. I understand why they want to escape Mexico, but goddamn, you have to do it legally. For example, in San Antonio, there's whole neighborhoods that aren't safe to even drive through, because of the gangs, plus there's apartments or houses with 20+ people living in them and living on our welfare benefits, while the women try to get knocked up by a legal so they can have an anchor baby. I'm not exaggerating, either. I've seen this shit happen. I worked with Mexican guy who's family came over legally back in the 70s, and unfortunately he was pretty stupid and knocked up an illegal girl who had snuck over with her 7 brothers. I've never seen a family so happy to see their teenage, unmarried sister get pregnant.
>>
>>8948159
Fuck that, we get some pretty retarded cases over here with illegals, recently I heard of a group of 6 Iranians who came over by boat and got refugee status by claiming they were being persecuted etc etc and not too long after they all went back to Iran for a fucking wedding and came back and they still kept their refugee status and we get illegal immigrant criminals getting slaps on the wrists for crime constantly and even if they're going to get deported for a crime or something else a bunch of fucking annoying left wing hipster faggots go and protest, the government just caves in too, they rarely ever go through with punishments or deportations cause of these fucks.

We also have some pretty rough areas that are infested with some feral illegals that everyone just avoids

>>
>>8948803
The best I've had were at a standard chippy just across the road from the fish market, with a half-hour queue, no seating, and a long wait for them to actually make your shit after you ordered it.
You get it in a box, and have to find a bench to sit on and eat it before the grease wears through the cardboard and drops it all, and then defend it from seagulls.
They don't use a lot of salt on your food, either. The sea adds it's own as you sit there and eat, and the spray is blown everywhere.

It's deliciously fresh, and their reputation means they have to keep quality up. They even get complaints about their long lines fucking with other businesses.

As a Brit whose been to US and around Middle East - our fish quality is surprisingly dope (Japanese sushi makers consider Britain one of the only foreign countries with good enough fish, allegedly) aaand our batter is surprisingly based.

American and middle eastern meat is absolutely delicious, but I think batter seems cheaper and saltier.

Australians get confused by multiple syllables and anything more complex than "a stake m8"

In my experience the cod has to be fresh and good quality. Bad cod tastes almost like soap.

Also you have to make sure the fish and batter are well seasoned before frying, because it will be so fucking bland otherwise and adding salt wont help. Also something something carbonation in the batter.

Pretty sure that's a battered sausage, a proper one too.
So many chippers have replaced that big salty meat stick with shitty little sausages barely bigger than cocktail sausages that are all clearly bought frozen from the same supplier. They're still like crack though, I guess its the lard they're fried in but I could eat a tray of those no matter how sick or fucked up I might be.

The Scots have mastered the art of the prolonged suicide by overeating.
The time was, they worked hard stealing our cattle, raping our women, and making babies to replace all the warriors killed swarm-charging the gun-lines of the Redcoats, and NEEDED all those calories.
Then we got sick of it and cleared the Highlands to Ireland, as a twofer solution to both the scottish raids and the irish catholics.
Now, Scots have nothing left to live for. Their country is a stunted tourist trap, existing only to squat on the remains of it's culture and history, selling stuffed loch ness monsters and 'world's greatest dad' mugs to tourists there to watch the whales and shoot the grouse. So, they eat, and they get drunk, and they eat some more.
The 'munchy box' is what you eat when you're drunk and possibly high, and you get hungry. You know it's got so many calories and so much saturated fat in it that each one takes a year off your life. But you welcome that, because you're Scottish. You eat it all, you drink the batter-scrap thickened dregs of the curry sauce., and then you go back in and order a deep-fried Mars bar for dessert. to knock another month or two off for good measure.
You don't eat a Munchy Box because you're hungry. You eat it because you're drunk, hungry, and welcome the sweet embrace of death because at least the fires of Hell will be a break from the constant, CONSTANT fucking rain in Scotland.

As a non brit I don't understand /ck/'s intense reaction to British food. Is it a continuation of the 'eternal anglo' meme? Is it because there are no flags and Americans think most of the people shitposting about their cuisine are from Britain?

Every cuisine has its ups and downs. I would never go to the UK for its food but they've got some decent dishes like sunday roast and fish and chips, and god tier desserts. There are honestly much worse cuisines out there. But even then most have some redeeming foods.

>>8947769

We like spice, but can't handle it without training. In a british summer when it's hot and humid and your sinuses are clogged with hayfever, you want a nice spicy curry to make you sweat.
In winter, you want a milder curry that fills your belly with sauce and rice.

>>8952811
I don't understand how you're meant to eat a sausage with a chip fork. I have to resort to picking it up and biting it.
>>
>>8954613
>Never understood the obsession with this
Because you've never eaten it.
Chips are tasty. Fish is good for you, and lovely when fresh. Battered fish is top tier.

Now, imagine a nice fresh lump of cod, in crispy batter, hot and crispy outside while flaky and fresh inside. The chips are just crispy on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside. A little salt, plenty of malt vinegar on the chips that are fresh out of the fryer. Wrap the whole lot in paper and carry it a few minutes to a bench. Sit down, open it up, inhale the vapourised vinegar. Eat it as you watch the tide come in for the evening and batter against the cliffs or the sea wall, while the light fades to nighttime.
Then you're alone on the seafront. The air's full of salty spray, your belly is full, the concrete wall you're leaning on is still warm from the sun, and you don't have to go to work on monday because you're on holiday.

That's what fish and chips should be like. That's what it reminds you of when you cave in and grab a portion from the local chippy on the way home from work.
>>
>>8954748

We hadn't had rain for five weeks up until a few days ago. The rain all the time spiel is a myth. Sure it rains fairly often in Autumn and Winter but Spring and Summer are usually fairly dry. Also it never gets too cold and rarely gets too hot. Summer is spent around 15-25 degrees.

I've been to scotland multiple times. Nearly froze to death once because someone forgot to put money in the heating and all the shops to put money on the card to run the heating were shut.
Last time I went there, I was driving for hours on twistyfuck roads jammed behind campervan after campervan, nearly went insane on a hundred miles of 60MPH average speed check, and the only person who was halfway polite to me was a fuel truck driver who moved over so I could overtake. The rest of them are dicks and can go fuck themselves.
The highland clearances stopped too early.
