I am convinced there is no better cheap as fuck food than this. Prove me wrong.

>as low as 50 cents per burrito
>add some salsa or cheese and it's delicious
>takes only 1 minute to make

Ramen doesn't have shit on El Monterrey.
>>
>>8910530
I usually keep at least one pack around for cheap but somewhat hearty food.
>>
>>8910530
Well it's like $8.
That's alright but they sell giant versions for a dollar now at family dollar, so you can get 4lbs instead for $8.

Also, the bean ones are awful if you're gonna eat them make sure you do beef

I sort of agree with this. If you microwave for 45 seconds first then finish in a toaster oven for 5 minutes it is basically the same flavor as most "authentic" mexican restaurants - with better texture.

The cheapest eats, per unit of flavor, though are probably bean and rice based soups/dishes you make yourself.
>>
>>8910530

Or you could buy tortillas, canned refried beans, salsa and cheese and make it yourself for cheaper and only marginally more time. Make your own beans and it's even cheaper.

I sometimes take these to work to heat up. Best bet is to pull out of the freezer the night before and let them thaw in the fridge. Takes 25 secs to heat the next day.

Down side is they are super high in fat and salt.

Not that anon, but I do. Have an awesome slaughter house/packing facility down the road from me. I also prefer pork over beef and I am getting freshly ground lean pork for $1.09/lbs that is coming directly off the kill floor. Chops an inch thick for $1.74/lbs. Fresh pork kidneys and liver for under a dollar a pound.

The beef and bean chimichangas are passable. I cannot recommend the bean and cheese burritos though. They always taste bland if not outright disgusting. The filling is always a pale brown with hardly any semblance of cheese in it. There is not enough sauce or sour cream to make them palatable. If I want a frozen burrito fix I just go for the $1 José Olé burrito/chimichangas. Preferably the chimichangas because they slide out of the wrapper easy after microwaving most of the time. The burritos require burning your fingers trying to cut the wrapper off while steam escapes.

I'm going to agree that you "make everything yourself" assholes are insufferable. It's a cheap burrito when you don't have time or interest in making anything else, not every night's dinner.

Sometimes I just don't have the time or desire to come home, dirty up a pan, utensils, or other plates, for a marginally improved experience. It's nice to just pop something tasty in the microwave for two minutes on a paper plate or paper towel, throw some hot sauce on it, and be on my way to whatever it is I was doing next, like work or TV or sleep.
>>
>>8915737
they never gave me stomach issues

>>
>>8915765

People are funny in this way.

You put the burritos in the freezer right?

So when you have a convenient day spend a few hours cooking a bunch of A+ cheap tasty food that you can freeze or refrigerate.

In this way you might even have a few regular lunches/dinners ready to go.

If you are on any type of diet or budget this can be even better and for me I find it's fun getting to look at a packaged dinner I created and instantly see how many calories and how much it cost me.

Feels damn amazing making a tasty filling meal for 2$ a hearty serving.
>>
>>8915785

None of my days are "convenient." I have two days where I'm not in the office and I prefer to spend them out doing things when I don't have to run errands. When it comes to frozen meals, they're there for the easiest possible consumption.

I don't want to eat something I spent hours and hours preparing and freezing - both because I don't see the opportunity cost in it and I hate eating repeated meals.

I have nothing against someone who needs to make their own frozen meals for health reasons, who is on an extreme budget, or even someone that has just made and extra large batch of something and had it left over.

But, I do have a problem with people who think you should spend hours of effort to save a few cents.

>not sprinkling a tablespoon of water over it and heating it with a cover to steam it

SO MUCH BETTER.

I make about $40 an hour at work. That's the time I'm wasting making my own "SO MUCH BETTER" beans at home for every mediocre reheated bean burrito meal at home soaking and working at some beans for what amounts to me wanting to eat something in the car.

Again, opportunity cost. All of the effort you spend on a slightly better bean burrito could be better spent elsewhere.

I am speaking from personal experience friend. I have never had a good tasting pre-made can of refried beans. The refried beans I make taste so so much better than anything I've had from a can. I'm not forcing you to do the same.

If you'd rather work another hour at your job instead of improving your meals then go ahead. You're in that weird spot of income where you're not poor enough to willingly give up a few hours of work time to save some money (not my reasoning for making my own refried beans, I do it only for flavor), while not rich enough to have a substantial passive income nor rich enough to be able to pay for someone else to make you a proper meal. And apparently you don't have a significant other to make meals for you either so that kinda sucks. Invest some $40 hours in that and you'll improve your happiness by a priceless amount
