For French cooking, sure. It's pretty useless if you want to make cuisine from other countries.

I only cook with fresh ingredients.
So given my temperate climate I really only cook French style. But really a good student of French technique can cook any other style.

I just finished The Food Lab by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt. Really great book for designed for beginners and fun to read too. Though all the information in is book is available for free via his blog, the book is still worth a buy.
