>"I'm so poor I only have $5 a day for food"
>"I'm fat because the only way to get two full meals a day at $5 is McDonald's"

I don't get it.

If you can get an excess of calories for $5, then spend less and get less calories and lose fucking weight. $5 = 2000 calories, $2 = 800 calories. And you have $3 leftover for the whole day. Every three days you can have a salad. Go you!

Poor people have no excuse for being fat.
>>
wow you're so smart
>>
When you're poor, though, it's tough to really make super rational decisions. I mean, if you're poor and struggling, you want SOME good things in your life, and many people will look to tasty, filling food. It can seem daunting, when most healthy food like fresh produce and meats seem way more expensive than fast food or microwavable food.

I know that sounds like an excuse, but I feel like it's just reality. When you're poor and you life sucks, you're not going to want to eat boring ass salad.
>>
>>8830030
In reality, US food stamp programs now give single people with disabilities 64.5 cents per day for food.

And 1000 calories costs $6-7 if you buy piss poor people's chemical slur.

You have points but you gotta ask the poor americans first. I don't have kids. I'm single. I can't work. I eat a total of $240 a year in food, the amount you spend in one week.
You have to level with us. Obama cut people by 90% in an obvious ploy to starve and kill americans. It's working.
>>
>>8830043
This 100% I work 10 hour shifts, I'm on the night shift right now. I eat outside once every few days because it's one of the few things I really enjoy. Some days I starve myself the whole day and go to some restaurant at the end of the day and order 2 or main courses

I don't have any time to cook and all I have at my apartment is dried nuts, some instant meals, ramen, condiments, and things like that.

Of course, it's not going to be like this always. I'm going to move on to better things
>>
>>8830030
>I don't get it.
You got that right.
>>
If they weren't reatarded they wouldn't be poor.
>>
>>8830089
This desu. Poor people are disgusting. They're like another species. Every time I see one I just shudder like holy shit imagine being poor and just doing minimum wage cuck work your whole life life
>>
>>8830097
What should they do instead? Can't work a better job without education, can't get education without a loan, can't get a loan without a certain income level or credit score.
>>
>>8830030
The mass majority of the population can't grasp that eating more calories than you use daily causes weight gain. I don't blame them either, we weren't taught it in school or anything.
>>
>>8830152
Things like construction, HVAC etc. are all full of brown people making decent wages with no education.
>>
>>8830072
Treating yourself to main course restauarant food sounds nice, anon. Perhaps you should at least eat a hearty breakfast on those fasting days though.
>>
>>8830030
They could even suck it up for a day, not eat, drink tap water, and they'd have $10. Then go buy a big bag of chicken breasts from Aldi for $8.
>>
>>8830043
>I mean, if you're poor and struggling, you want SOME good things in your life
Then they should run. Not only is it free, it's healthy too.
>>
>>8830051
Isn't it much cheaper to just buy beans and rice as basics and add cheap vegetables (or farm/pluck them if you are able to)
>>
>>8830072
try to buy a ricecooker
you can just make the rice whenever and eat it later on
put on some sauce or veggies
this meal will take bout 10 mins to prepare
>>
>>8830097
>Poor people are disgusting
you got that wrong
it's
>dumb people are disgusting
>>
>>8830417
Same thing
>>
>>8830423
No it's not.

Many intellectuals come from pisspoor families
Many artists never had much money and were only recognized after death
Many inventors never had money
Many philosophers were poor
and so on and so on
it's
>dumb people are disgusting
>>
What veggies go good with rice?

And sauces besides obv soy.
>>
>>8830452
And yet it is completely possible to establish a ststisticsl proof that links upper class wealth and members of academia, intelligentsia and renowned artists. It is not as if the poor were any lesser for it, but rather, to show that there are societal forces that perpentrate and recreate the current class structure. Social mobility, for the most part, is not more than a myth.

>Social mobility, for the most part, is not more than a myth.

Someone sounds black.
>>
>>8830043
While a lot of it is this, it's also the media.
You can't go anywhere or do anything without being blasted from all directions with all the fatty, salty, tasty things you could buy on the brand new 2-dollar menu or whatever.

I gave up network TV and have adblock on my browser, but I still see fucking cheeseburgers on billboards on my daily commute. I even hear ads for Coca-Cola on the radio. Fucking Coke on the radio.

No one advertises veggies except Michelle Obama, and who the fuck wants to do what she says?

>>8830466
broccoli, carrot, peas, eggplant, celery

beans and nuts aren't vegetables but the texture pairs very well with rice and they're full of energy (just be sure to roast nuts in a pan so they'll soak up sauce and become softer)

as for sauces just about anything you like
worcestershire, hot sauce, teriyaki, lime juice
mix peanut butter with soy sauce for a delicious sauce
any kind of broth, the rice will drink it right up
don't be afraid to go sweet, either. Butter and sugar, add some cinnamon, fruit sauces - anything you might put in oatmeal or on cereal will go just fine in rice.
>>
>>8830478
I wasn't talking about social mobility socialist fag.

I was talking about poor, intelligent people wich aren't disgusting at all. And I was talking about disgusting, dumb people of all social classes.
>>
>>8830030
>5$/day for food
>poor

5$/day would feed a family of four in times of need, for fuck's sake.

>poor
>so I can only eat at McDonald's

I really don't get this, how is it that people really think McDonald's is cheaper than cooking for yourself?
>>
>>8830529
>how is it that people really think McDonald's is cheaper than cooking for yourself?
because they are fucking stupid
>>
How do we get "poor" ppl to "better" themselves? Especially if they don't think they need to change?

Let's just assume they are poor on drugs, drink and are ethnic.
>>
>>8830533
strict laws concerning chemicals and additives in food
cheap ecological food and meals
educate them about health
let opinion leaders promote healthy food
healthy cookingclasses in schools
quality meals in schools
>>
>>8830051
> And 1000 calories costs $6-7 if you buy piss poor people's chemical slur.

A 10 lb bag of potatoes is $2-3 and that's 3470 calories..

>>8830533
Eugenics.
>>
>>8830533
>drugs, drink

It's impossible. Short of forcing them, addicts will always satisfy their addictions before they think about helping themselves.

But limiting food stamps to non-junk food would be a start. No chips or soda on the taxpayer dime.
Tax fast food to drive up their prices.
Reduce or eliminate the corn subsidy so there's less incentive to stuff HFCS in everything. Subsidize vegetable growers instead.

But the stuff you said hit the elderly and children in elementary school. What about the bulk of them?

What's junk food? Orange juice is loaded with sugar, would it be banned for stamp users? How much sugar is bannable?

French fries are just cut up potatoes, a vegetable, are those bad?

The food stamp program isn't a health program, its a feeding program to prevent hunger.
>>
>>8830558
I'm not the one you linked and I don't know much about foodstamps
those foods/drinks you named are not great but it's a lot harder to become superfat if you remove crap like modified cornsyrup, msg, hydrolated soy.. from the diet
>>
>>8830558
Junk food would be limited to processed foods, certainly.
Things like french fries are a borderline case you couldn't easily restrict, but buying them at the store and cooking them yourself is already loads better from a health perspective than getting them from a burger joint.

Hunger is malnutrition
Eating the wrong things too much will give you malnutrition just as soon as eating too little.
Therefore food stamps should be aimed at correcting both problems.
>>
5 AUD can get you 12 eggs. Another bit of pocket change can get you some broccoli, asparagus and rice. Healthy as fuck.

60 dollarydoos a week will get you everything you need to make a good and interesting meal every night. Or 6 maccas meals.

msg, like aspartame (nutrasweet) dumbs you down and makes obese
there are a lot of chemicals like that in our food

So maybe its the food companies fault that people are acting poor in the first place.

Maybe they aren't to blame?
>>

poor people are lazy and stupid
they wont buy rice and potatoes with the little money they have
they'd rather buy booze and fast food

there are not enough inspections
food companies have the fda and other institutions for food regulation at their bidding

>>8830639
Well they are going to be poor either way so what would you do?

Extend your poor life with healthy food and not have the only luxuries you can afford in your sad life? Or have a few cheeseburgers and a few beers to distract you from your sad life if only for a few moments? It shortens your sad life? Is that so bad?
>>
>>8830654
It's a fucking miracle that I live and breath, I'm going to eat healthy to extend my existence on this ball of lava and dirt.
>>

If you're not smart or organized enough to know how to cook and manage calories, that's probably why you're poor.

I calculated yesterday I can make a 900 calorie loaf of artisan bread for $0.19. And that's not even buying flour in bulk. And it's fucking delicious.

>>
>>8831368
This absolutely, up until recently my entire family has been poor, none of us have been even close to overweight, and I've only been at the proper BMI for the last six months. "Poor people" who are overweight are only overweight because they waste their money on frivolous spending, i.e.: expensive appliances, the newest electronics, overpriced snack foods, sodas, etc. If you're poor and you spend your money the right way there's no reason to be obese other than sheer laziness.

This is what I do. I get a shit ton of rice, red beans, hamburger (the kind that comes in a big greasy tube), a few whole chickens, meat goes in the freezer and then fresh produce as I need it, I hunt for the on sale in season stuff. Things like eggs are mad cheap and I replenish my spice rack as needed. I cheat though because both of my jobs are in kitchens so I get one or two free meals almost every day but even if I had to feed myself every meal I'd still go a while between grocery runs.
>>
>>8834136
Yet at the local market they're at least half the price
>>
GROCERY OUTLET BARGAIN MARKET.

Wtf a meal at the arches is like 8 bucks
>>
>>8830030
I suspect you have never been EXTREMELY hungry after a hard days work doing some sort of physical job. Nobody wants to be poor and hungry, and fast food will definitely fill you up. Of there are ways to avoid getting AS fat by eating fast food (cutting out soda, not ordering fries, ect.), I doubt these poor folks care at the end of the day.

>>
>>8830043
>I mean, if you're poor and struggling, you want SOME good things in your life

Absolutely. I remember when I was living on about $650 a month, I used this ghetto chinese place down the road within walking distance. I could get 10 pounds of chicken fried rice for $10. It was so fucking delicious, filling, and it lasted me about 6 full meals (with water and a few drops of lemon juice to drink). Easily over 4,000 calories a day, but it really did make those days tolerable.

Still, I managed to lose weight through that all, so I dunno.
>>
>>8835205
You were lucky. There is no fast food in my town, every day is another $8-10 and only one meal.
>>
>>8832336

Social Security/Disability pays out more the more you have paid into the system (in other words, worked a tax paying job). Your state's food stamp program might be similar.

Tennessee's is based on income and resources. Around the year 2000, I got $292 for myself and my son. I felt it was adequate to feed us both. Then again, milk wasn't $5 a gallon in 2000. I remember the time I called them to cancel the benefits because we were back on our feet. The woman sounded like it was the first time that had ever happened. Probably was.

Food stamps are not a federal program. It varies from state to state, and the amount you get varies case by case.

It's not just "Oh, you're not working, here's $100" ... It's "Do you own a house? Car? List your liquid assets. Last W2 forms? Total yearly income including odd jobs and gifts. Total spent on rent/mortgage, health insurance/medical expenses, transportation. Proof you're actively searching for a job. Proof you're recieving/seeking child support from (our state won't give benefits for a child unless there's a child support case against the missing parent, which is where I come in)" There's a huge list of variables that change how much you get - if any at all - in my state. Not sure about others. I've seen amounts as low as $34 and as high as $390 (for 1 person) since I work beside the Department of Human Services here quite a bit

They have criminal record because they commit crime and cops let most crimes slide in these neighborhoods because they'd have to arrest everyone if they didn't. And anyone who's dealt with enough of them (blacks) would know why it's wise to avoid them.

i work over 40 hours a week in an extremely physically taxing job and i make well over the median income for americans in my area. and i still find time to lift, run and buy real food.

the real problem is that poor people tend to be undereducated, so they don't realize how easily their lives can be improved. there are people in my tax bracket who eat nothing but mcdonald's and will succumb to congestive heart failure before they're 60, so it's really about perspective. how you go about shifting folks' perspective is what bothers me.

> linking me to this cuck shit
Cuck is an insult because it's a pathetic thing to be. And sorry to say your fetish now has broader connotations.
>>

Just get a fucking crockpot and learn how to use it
By far cheaper, healthier and tastier than fast food

People will stop calling you a cuck when you stop being one, so you might as well get used to it.

>French fries are just cut up potatoes, a vegetable, are those bad?
Not him but while I do agree with you on the point that chips are just cut up potatoes they usually have more preservatives. Also a sack of potatoes is usually around the same price as a bag of chips and you can make way more chips with a sack of potatoes than you'd get in a bag of frozen chips. Plus you'd be able to make them with less oil/salt.

Cuck morphed from the context of sexual situation to a broader range of ideas when people on /pol/ recognized a trend of people with cuckold fetishes being spineless and constantly shitting on themselves outside the bedroom, theorizing that the fetish is an expression of their psychological deficiencies.

It means that someone is behaving in a way that broadcasts their lack of self-esteem and an an air of them being so convinced of their own shittiness that they act in ways that lets others take advantage of them.

>>8834118
>If you truly wanted something, you would fucking smash every obstacle in your way or die trying

That's the correct path. But a lot of people have been fed nihilism and been convinced that people who actually achieved things either cheated or were inherently superior. See: all the morons who complain about not being able to cook but then don't try to learn or argue that they just don't have the ability/time/etc. They default to "if it's too hard it's obviously not meant for me" without actually knowing true difficulty and keep themselves distracted with trying to 1-up each other in following sports, being trendy, or interpersonal drama so they have something to focus on other than actually dealing with their problems.

Solution is to just talk to as many depressed given-up fucks and help them regain that fire.

>>8834166
If you had to be poor you'd rather fucking die? What kind of mentally ill person are you? The correct response to being poor is "figure out how to spend time not being poor." You play videogames, right anon? Surely you can put that autism to use say, managing your finances, learning valuable skills via the internet (youtube, libgen, bookzzz, etc) and fucking improving your life out of poverty instead of trying to off yourself or moping about?

>>8830152
>can't get education without a loan

Wrong. On lunch break they can watch instructional videos, read articles, watch fucking PBS... College loans are a scam.

While I wanted to point a finger at your ideas and scream, "Look, the funny Horatio Algier man," you do make some good points about individual responsibility, although I don't understand why you spent more than one sentence dismissing the term, "cuck."

In addition, the issue of the burden of student debt is starting to be addressed by some forward thinking officials in certain areas of the country where if you accept giving back some of your labor to that region, you can be assured a 4 year degree without debt. The idea that your free courses on the computer carry the same level of prestige as a cap and gown graduate is absurd.
>>

>you do make some good points about individual responsibility
Thank you

>although I don't understand why you spent more than one sentence dismissing the term, "cuck."
Completeness sake

>The idea that your free courses on the computer carry the same level of prestige as a cap and gown graduate is absurd.

Education isn't for fucking prestige. You can have prestige when you've got 20 years in your field and done something with your life. Postsecondary Education is about being trained by knowledgeable experts in how to use and obtain skills within a field or discipline via the formal training methods that should (in theory) be faster than just reading books aimlessly.

However, it's now far easier to obtain a correct formal path and training without having to enslave yourself to debt. After that, doing work independantly in the field you are now skilled in is the way to win.

Of course if you have no ambition then being a wageslave middle classer is just like being poor but with bigger numbers, since a lot gets sucked away via debts.

>if you accept giving back some of your labor to that region, you can be assured a 4 year degree without debt.

Didn't know indentured servitude was back in style.

I'll be making a decent meal for 5 dollars today. Fuck all your bullshit.

I think ill make a Sheppard's pie.
$3 for ground beef
About $1 worth of veggies
A few cents worth of seasoning... That's it.

Should make at least 4 servings

I like how everyone is arguing that poor people HAVE to eat fast food because they want it. You guys are dumb. If you have been poor and say this you are stupid. I've been poor and have worked with the homeless. There are plenty of opportunities out there. I make $15 an hour and live comfortably. I have no special skills, only the willingness to show up everyday and work hard. There is literally no excuse. The only people who cant make more than minimum wage are teens and felons.

>You don't understand the political usage of the word cuck
not him, but it sounds more like you don't understand the historical context of the word or the current political context. both have everything to do with race, the current political context even more so. yes it means "spineless" as in "spineless towards those filthy savages pouring into your country"
>>
>>8838833
Utter bullshit.
The word does not have anything to do with race.
>>
>>8838851
It has been used in the sense he is talking about for more than 100 years, polfags didn't pioneer using the term in a political or racial sense.

traditionally in cucking the "bull" was always a black man (that's why it's called a bull). it's heavily associated with that.
>>
>>8838873
>traditionally
Nope. Try again, the word cuckold predates any of your milleniel faggotry.
>>
>>8838912
yes, it does precede millennial faggotry, which is when people exclusively associated it with black guys fucking their wife. if anything millennial faggotry is what started separating the fetish from race a little

I've had people tell me that they can't afford to buy a big bag of rice. Then I tell them that a 50lb bag of rice is like 12-25$ and properly stored can feed a family of three's carb requirements for 2 and a half months and they either:
A) turn it into a long argument starting with "W-well you can't eat just rice anon!" and I have to poke holes in everything they try to use to defend their ego from having to recognize their own mistakes.
or B) their expression changes to distress as their brain works through how everything they thought they knew about the most basic human skill of eating is actually just bad memes and retardation

they wouldn't be so poor and desperate if they didn't squander their income in the first place

that's literally the opposite way I interpreted the graph. the data suggests that for black women, obesity correlates positively with poverty, but the opposite is true for black men. the real question is why the gender divide reverses the economic dynamic.
