Who else /soup/ here?
I forgot to take a pic of the finished product but here is step one of some soup I made the other day.

That's a coarse salsa

I threw chicken broth, onion, garlic, tomato, and serrano peppers in the pot and let them boil for a bit. I then thinly sliced carrots and leftover grilled sausage (hot links) and added them. I let that simmer for a bit then added red split lentils. A little salt and pepper and such at the end and it was some of the best soup I have ever fucking eaten.

Everything is floating to the top. There is a decent amount of liquid in there.
Soup kicks ass. I love making seafood chowder with the shitty frozen seafood I have left over and roasted squash soup is easy and delicious
Wa la.
I cool a big pot of soup at least once a week for family. It's filling, cheap to make, and most of all tastes great.
Split pea with ham hocks, and a ham and white bean soup are their favorites. I prefer a lentil stew with beans.

Also soups are easily paired with something like homemade cornbread or biscuits.
The fact that they are so easy to prepare gives you time to make a bread while it's boiling.

Why didn't you sweat the veggies?

Didn't really think of it. Thanks for the tip.

Sounds tasty, but your steps are backwards.
Brown your meats, add aromatic veggies, sweat them a bot to get the fond off of the bottom of the pot, then add the stock and continue as you did.
