Youll find most of the best minds of Italy left after the house of Savoy conquered the penninsula and the Piedmont aristocracy decided to loot the rest of the country of all of its treasure to horde away. This phenomenon continues to modern times and Torino is to this day consumed with jealousy of the great cities of Genoa, Milan, Florence, and Venice (also Naples before the earthquake destroyed it in the 1700s, it never recovered).
