Is it normal to shorten the word "refrigerator" to "ref"? or is "fridge" the only acceptable shortening?
Ref is used as short for referee, so it would be a little confusing to use it that way.
I call mine the 'tor.
I call mine the unportable cooler
I call mine the cold two ton tin
My country dad calls it the "ice box" because in the past they would buy big blocks of ice and put them inside of it to keep things cool.
I'm from Indonesia and in our language we call it a "kulkas" which literally translates just like it sounds - "cool case"
Holy shit just call it a fridge god this board is so fucking autistic sometimes it sucks all the joy out of cooking for me god dammit i hate this fucking place theres so many better forums but i keep coming back fuck
I put "REF" on blueprints to point out a refrigerator at work.

I also call it an ice box. But I'm from Texas and I've never had anyone say anything about it.

Frig, short for frigid.
Although I've heard some people call it a "reefer."
How strange.
