Nice trips! I'm not a big fan of this stuff anymore. It's not bad but I don't drink many IPAs and when I do I want them to be extremely fruity. I'm drinking pic related right now. It's strong but tastes almost like fruit juice. Just had Evil Twin's brandy barrel Jesus stout. Not the best variation but good. Their Molotov Cocktail is another one of my favorite IPAs.

Kek. I'm in my 30's, am "technically" in recovery, and still spend most days drinking without batting an eye about spending decent money on alcohol - just move on to liquor after you've had 2-3 nice beers, dum dum.

Life's too short to waste a drink on a shitty macro lager, let alone spend an entire day torturing yourself by forcing down a case of that dirty dish water. I'm an admitted alcoholic and I couldn't possibly drink that stuff fast enough to get a tinge of a buzz, and with the taste doing nothing but making me want to vomit, I don't see myself ever coming around.

The "Stop liking what I don't like" kid is mocking someone else's tastes...

Not OP, but I'm 40, and I love a good stout. If anything IPAs are the meme beer.

My recent favorite is Founder's Backwood Bastard Scotch Ale. 11.2 ABV. I'm going to be sad when the keg runs dry. It has a very rich scotch flavor to it that manages to not taste forced like most liquor barrel aged beers I've had. Prior to that I was loving Big Bad Baptist Stout.
>>
>>8629246
I'm 40, and also a functioning alcoholic. Personally, I head to the few good taphouses in town early in the night and drink some good high-end stuff for a few hours. At 9, one of them starts doing 3 dollar Irish Carbombs. I'll do a few of those with my friends, and then switch to Coors Light for the rest of the night at the local live music venue to maintain for the rest of the evening. 32 ounce tall boys for 3 bucks saves my wallet. There is the occasional shot mixed in there as people in my usual group insist that it's shot time. It's what I get for hanging out with a bunch of people in their 20's. Basically my nieces, nephews, and their crew try to mesh with us old townie drunks, and I have to drink with both groups.

The burdens of being popular.

bought it illegally in brussels, it was by far the most incredible quad ale I've ever had. Definitely top 5 beer experience if not #1. Banana bread notes, rich beautiful plum, brown sugar, cherry liqueur, dark bread. St Bernardus 12 but imagine rarified and distilled into its purest essence so the flavor is more intense and balanced immaculately. Drank it with my dad and was just speechless. I don't know if I'm hyping it up in my head or it truly deserves the praise I'm giving it, but it goes down in my books as one of the very best things I've ever drank
>>
>>8627245
Honestly this is how I feel as well about stouts. There is no character to them. It's just a race to who can make it taste the most like a chocolate milkshake. It's disgusting and unskilled.

>huge chewy chocolate with coffee notes
>big big dark fruits
>>
>>8630622
to be fair, this is true of most beers. Doesn't matter if you're drinking a belgian lambic or an irish stout. People are always going to try new shit, because basic flavors have more or less already been perfected with slight flavor variances by company. I like to see what people come up with. Like Stone Xocaveza. It's basically a ridd on Mexican Hot Chocolate. It manages to not be overly sweet or cloying, just light hints of it. I really dig it. Am I going to order it with Shepherd's pie? Hell no. But it's certainly not something to throw out of my rotation. I'm for variety. If you don't love something, cool. don't drink it. But other people are going to have different tastes. I mean, telling someone to kill themselves because they have a different palate? How big of a fucking douchbag do you have to be to think like that. How insecure in your manhood are you that you have to deride someone's tastes because they don't want your "manly" notion of what a beer should be?
>>
>>8630658
Nigga I was following you until the last half of your rant. Where exactly did I tell anyone to kill themselves or call manhood into any of this. All I said was I don't like stouts

>>8630658

>>
>>8630622
You stated that you you feel the same as >>8627245
>Congratulations you discovered the milkshake of the beer world now kill yourself

So are you saying you don't agree with him? you don't show it with the "trash" statement. All I'm getting is salt. All I'm saying is, beer is awesome because it is an open canvas to experiment with. Every once in awhile, a brewery makes fucking gold out of something I would never expect to work. Try everything. When you use this "fuccbois" shit I realize I'm discussing something I love with a 20 something twat trying to be manly. Grow the fuck up, kid. There's more to this world than your narrow view and what some fucking imageboard told you is manly.

Had this when I visited the US, enjoyed very much. I thought nitro was a meme but it poured a beautiful frothy perfect head straight out of the bottle. One of the nicest looks I've seen.

Had pic related yesterday, was very good but a bit old by the time it got to me. Lots of nice red wine/brandy notes.

Taking a break from beer because hoppy stuff always leaves me stuffy and I need to see if it's causing some gnarly eczema on my fingers. I might be allergic :( but hoping it's something else.

>Lots of overpowering nonsense to mask the taste of what you're really drinking.
This is the stupidest thing I ever heard in regards to complaints about drink. Do you want to taste raw alcohol or something?

Virtually every drink sold and enjoyed for the taste has ingredients added to make them taste better.

Allergies suck. One night I was eating/drinking a bunch of new things, and all of a sudden I looked down and my hands were red and swollen. I have no idea what caused it--the oatmeal stout I was drinking or something else. I should probably go through and try everything individually to see what it was.

I do have a general question for all who lurk. Do any of you feel the craft beer IPA scene is bullshit?

I do not find IPA's to be pleasant at all and I know there exists a bunch of people who enjoy a high IBU for some odd reason. My argument is that it seems akin to the hot sauce business. How many hot sauces have been made that boasted the burn but aside from mouth rape had anything redeemable in the way of flavor? With IPA's it seems a goal is to make a beer as hopy and bitter as possible with maybe the taste of pine underlying it all in an effort to claim the "MANLY BEER" title.

Or am I just to far removed from neanderthals to get it?

Pictured is the skyline in my city of Charleston
>>
>>8642330
Let me clue you into the only style of IPA worth giving a shit about: Northeast/Vermont style IPAs. Juicy, delicious and flavorful.
>>
Post beers you can only enjoy 100% cold.

Pic relate its as long as it stays cold its nice but fuck does the flavor go downhill as it gets warmer
>>
>>8642358
I can't get Northeast US beers even though I live in fairly close proximity, but my local brewery does a Vermont style IPA that is absolutely killer and may be my #1 of all time. No wonder the style is so renowned.
>>
>>8642330
Some people are much more sensitive to bitterness than others, so you may find it overwhelming whereas someone else can taste the fruity, citrus, herbal, piney, or whatever other flavors of the hops. I legitimately enjoy a lot of different IPAs including high IBU ones.
>>
>>8642639

>can taste the fruity, citrus, herbal, piney, or whatever other flavors of the hops

This. People who say all IPA's just taste like pine are full of shit. There are different kinds of hops and they all taste/smell different.

IPA's aren't at all like hot sauces where it's just about making things as bitter as possible and acting macho or some bullshit. The hops add a complexity to the beer, and when you get in to doubles, triples, and quads, you can get a really big beer that's really complex but still maintains a balance between the hops and malts.

Not to be a dick, but people tend to appreciate and not get overwhelmed by bitter flavors as they get older.
>>
>>8642668
There's also the issue of freshness, those more delicate flavors and smells fall of really quickly in a lot of cases so an old IPA can be pretty bad.

Yeah, but the good thing is breweries are evolving. Sure, they keep the silly IPA'S for the kids, but many are doing Alts, Kolsch, Bocks, Trippels, Wits, Dunkels, Oktoberfests, and Stouts.

You're on a kindergarten beer board right now, where these children have tasted babby's first homebrew - the ubiquitous IPA, which they have no idea of the derivation. They believe it developed spontaneously in their hometown.

IPAs arent my favorite but there are a few i do enjoy drinking.

I used to work at a liquor store PT a few months back and the beer experts there (it was a large well stocked store and the guys in charge of the beer coolers knew dozens and dozens of beers intimately) said while people have been knocking on the IPA boom for years, that it is still the largest growth sector/genre er whatever of beer.

The best IPAs aren't just hop bombs, they have complexity to them. For west coast IPAs this means citrus and pines needles, for east coast it means dank, tropical juiciness. Then you have other breweries including ones outside the US who experiment with other flavours entirely. It's all about the craft, bra.
>>

Litterally Left Hand's worst beer. Not ever stout has to be like Guinness you fag.

Having a La Guillotine later today.

They don't even sell that bottle here, only the small one. I love Gulden Draak too, the original over the 9000 ofc.
>>8627334
Idk i think the alcohol stands out on the Piraat too much compared to something like the Gulden Draak's for me, i like high ABV when you almost don't notice the high ABV.
Delirium does it right.
>>
Do you guys keep the bottle caps or bottles for collection or something?
>>
Had one of these earlier on.

Very nice indeed, they sell them at posh hotels and golf clubs and whatnot.
>>
>>8653561
Nitro milk stout is pretty good m8. Did you just get into stouts or something and bash the weaker abv ones?
>>
>>8653553
What's your username? I love new untappd friends.

Last beer I had at home was a 4pk of canned Guiness. The head tastes wonderful but the beer itself is disappointingly watery and weak in alcohol. The little dingus inside the can is neat.

I'll just stick to cheap lagers I guess.

Having this right now. Not Bad. I had a Winter IPA from Faction Brewing and and Orderville from Modern Times last night, and those were both pretty amazing.

Been trying to be able to distinguish all the most common hops.
>>
>>8654419
Try some imperial stouts if you want something that isn't weak and watery

Not much variety in my local supermarket, this, a few shitty other imported beers, and the local brand which is good but boring.

Dude that shit is great, I got if off tap once and it was easily one of the best stouts I've ever had.
Can't get it where I am though, sucks dick living in a country that doesn't have much interest in good beer.
>>
>>8651267
It's a good drinker, crisp, but nothing special, try Kirin megumi if you can find that for a good jap beer.

I got a free pack of about 16 of these but they were all spoiled or a year out of date...

How do anons feel about lost coast brewery. I live in the area, went on a tour their brewery the other day. Really like fog cutter and their Indica. They also have a great wheat beer they don't bottle

My local craft beer store doesn't have the white ale, unfortunately and as far as I know I'm the only one who regularly buys the red rice ale but maybe I can convince the owner to order some of the white ale.

I get what you mean. The owl made me try it despite the fact that I didn't have too positive experiences with Asian beer before.

You know how some folks like to claim that macros/pisswater is the perfect kind of beer for a hot summer day? This beer is like that to me, only not shit.
Much less fruity then the packaging would have you believe, and probably one of the few beers that is actually thirst-quenching.

It takes so long to get drunk off beer it's ridiculous.
Maybe it's just my Irish liver, but it takes several beers to get me even buzzed.
I'll stick to liqueur, at least it does it's job in a much shorter amount of time.

It's great. I'm pretty cheap though so $15 for 4 is a bit high, but definitely worth it.

I also tried another Imperial called Yeti, but didn't like it as much. Hops pls get out of my beer milkshake reee.

However one that I did enjoy was called Tip the Cow from Single Speed brewery. That one tasted just like coffee - not sweet, just not bitter.

Almost feels bad that stout season is just about over...

I just got home with a 6 pack of this. Not very good. Tastes like nothing with a side of vomit. I was looking for something more like a wheat beer, I guess I should have read the label better. At least its 6.6%

Yeah man, Leffe is a joke, especially Blonde. The one that is tolerable is pic related, but there are better options for a price.
