I agree to a certain extent that people who claim to like the taste of certain hard liquors (especially scotch) are posturing to make themselves seem cool. However, there are some drinks that actually taste pretty good. For instance, I like Whiskey Sours and can drink them like they're lemonade. That being said, I am wary when people claim to enjoy drinking hard liquor on the rocks for anything other than the buzz.

Beer is a weird thing. It doesn't taste good. But it does taste enjoyable. It is hard to explain. Also bad beer is horrendous. Cheap mass produced lager/ale tastes like death. Failed craft experiments people will push as the new fad not to waste the batch are just as bad. But some real gems are remarkably lovely. Russian stouts, scottish ales and quadrupels you usually cant go wrong with.

Physically impossible. Not only does alcohol affect the taste, but the fermentation process does as well. By altering that, you in effect completely change the taste.

for mainly 2 reasons:
-got drunk a lot when I was in highschool with rum, vodka and shit that now all tal taste like puke (nobody cares if a teenager is drunk in thirld world)

Just because something has a bitter component to the flavor doesn't make it gross.

With that said, a lot of beers are not good. And pretty much every beer is less immediately rewarding than say a soda. But the deliciousness of drinks like coffee or beer or wine come from complexity. There are many flavors all mixing and contrasting with each other and it makes something more lastingly delicious than your typical sugary drink.
