Some places and sometimes at home there's really good chicken sandwiches to be had. So as much as I fucking love burgers, I'll sometimes take the chicken sandwich option if it's better than the burger option.

This. That's just called a chicken burger outside the U.S. Any cooked food in a bun is generally called a burger. E.g. mushroom burger is just a large cooked portobello mushroom in a bun. A mackerel burger is a piece of grilled mackerel in a bun. A hallomi burger is etc.
In the U.S. burger means specifically meat or otherwise patty based sandwich.
