How is bread not a vegetable if it's from a plant?

One example is, Mashed Potatoes. Which is still a vegetable even though it's been made different.

When you take the wheat plant and make it into bread, it's the same thing, you're just changing it. It's still a vegetable. I don't understand why they say bread is different. Is it because the bodt of Christ at church is bread and it's historically
an important food?

I think you're on to something, OP. Why is cheese not a vegetable? It's made with cow milk which is made up from grass that cows eat, and grass is a vegetable!

Not really. There's nothing that categorically different about bread than for instance mashed potatoes, broccoli etc. I just want to know why they call it sonething different and if it's for a reason that it's outside of the general group of all the other vegetables at this point
