i bought some frozen squid, i defrozted it, took away the intestines and the membrane and it still isnt white
i know that its a different type of squid and not the pearly white kind and i know i have to keep taking away more membrane until its whiteish but

The purple is fine and edible. The white ones are calamari if I remember correctly.

My wife is asian and absolutely will not buy whole squid if it's purplish or red. She says that's a sure sign it has been frozen a long time or was not frozen immediately after caught.

Which types should be purple? The ones she buys that are more or less white with some darker areas look exactly the same as the ones that are purplish or pink that she refuses to buy, except for the discoloration.
