Is there a way to save a recipe that you overdosed salt, like rice per example?

add more rice and water
>>

Use your rice to pickle something else.
>>
use acidic ingredients like lemon juice to balance or just add water if you don't mind diluting the flavour
>>
Don't salt whatever else you're having the rice with
>>
Wash the salt off the rice with water

This. I've overseasoned rice before. Just run under the faucet in a collander and drain well then add back to heat to rewarm.
>>
Salt and Pepper are natural opposites, so like soundwaves you can cancel out the salt by adding equal parts pepper to the dish.

That's how curry was invented, you sadistic asshole

Problem is the water will take away more than just the salt.

It doesn't work that way, only something acidic and a little sweet can balance out the salt.

You're kinda fucked when you over-salt something. Dilution is the only way to bring it back to normal, like if your soup is too salty, you can double the volume. Usually not practical, so throw it away... its ruined.
Rookie cooking mistake, and you'll learn to be very careful. You can always add more but you cant take it out.

i dont think so

better off under seasoning as you can always add more salt
>>
It doesn't work with rice, but many oversalted dishes can be saved by cutting some potatoes in thin slices and letting them simmer together with the dish for a few minutes. They absorb a lot of salt.

I beg to differ. Maybe before the invention of tupperware and freezer.

Just make a second, unsalted dish and mix them together. Then it will be slightly underseasoned, which will make you oversalt it again, this time the double portion.

Anon why won't you let me have my fun.
>>

If it's slightly oversalted, you might be able to save it with a little bit of acid. If it's way over, your only hope is to make another batch/half-batch of whatever you're making, don't salt it at all, and mix them. Then you can freeze your leftovers or whatever if need be.
>>
Replace the water and add a raw potato, it will suck up some salt from the food. But what, >>8456003 said. Just dont oversalt it.
>>
>>8455713
Put a smart phone in it. The smart phone will absorb all the salt

I once confused sugar with salt when I was making pleb brownies, I stopped making brownies.
