So I recently got a carbon steel wok. Today I washed it and seasoned it and made a dish with it.
I read that some of these woks come with a "coating" that prevents them from rusting while being shipped. The instructions that came with the wok said to just wash it but there are some people that say you need to use steel wool to get it off. Now i'm paranoid I didn't get all the coating off of my wok.
How the hell can you tell if that shit is still on there?
usually it is a food safe material like bees wax. They take into account that some dumbass won't read the instructions and will straight up cook with it without cleaning

what
Dunno about carbon steel but I think the scrubby green side of a sponge is enough. That's what I did when I got my cast iron pan
you fry a quarter cup of oil with a bunch of salt and potato peelings. That cleans and seasons the surface.
