Is there Americano here any better than standard black coffee which is burnt as shit? I like having somewhere that isn't my house to do work on my laptop (nearby libraries are shut and my uni is double the distance of this starbucks) and this works but god damn, the coffee is a 2/5 at best.
What's my best option if I just want coffee and not sugary drinks

My local stores recently started carrying a line of cold brew drinks that are actually pretty decent. Smooth taste, decent on their own - sans sweeteners and creams. Not sure if it's getting to be cold as balls where you are just yet, but try giving those a whirl.
Americano is an awful way to drink coffee

Your expectations are unrealistic if you expect black coffee to taste anything other than bitter with other subtle notes. As you drink it more, you'll taste the richer flavors more though.

It's because they use a dark roast. When I make drip it's medium or light and considerably better; I don't even mind bitter, I just don't want to drink a tire from a Camaro that just did a burnout.
Gas station/fast food coffee is also fine black, albeit a bit watery
I've been to Starbucks once. In Paris, because I wanted a break from the torrefacto and French roast I'd been drinking. Got a black drip and was impressed. Is it different at other Starbucks shops?

If they have a blonde roast, spring for that. the reason it's burnt as shit is because the Verona is a dark roast. Blonde roast is less burnt and has more caffiene, they call it Veranda
Both are still shit because >starbucks
And no, because their espesso beans are dark roast too.
