brassica vegetables (brocolli, cabbage, kale, brussels sprouts etc) as they are one of the vegetable food groups, as a child/young adult i hated them, now i cannot go a day without including a brassica of some kind

It seems you have a problem with brassicaceae. Try sauteeing cabbage, it gives a totally different flavor

I mean I guess it makes sense, but I never even made the connection that a pumpkin would be considered a vegetable. I guess I just always lumped it into some nondescript "other" category of edible plants.
