Why is vanilla used as a word for plain? Isn't vanilla in itself a flavor?
>>
>>8311418
well, this will probably bring out the shitposting
>Meaning "conventional, of ordinary sexual preferences" is 1970s, from notion of whiteness and the common choice of vanilla ice cream.

I'm interpreting 'whiteness' above as the color of vanilla ice cream as opposed to 'white race'.

yeah this thread is going to go to shit really quickly
>>
>Why is vanilla used as a word for plain

Its not. Bye.
>>
>>8311439
well hell, maybe it is 'white' as in race
>>
I mean I like vanilla in my chocolate but I don't like chocolate in my vanilla
>>
Because vanilla is fucking boring.
>>

pleb
>>
because default ice cream flavor
>>
Are you retarded? Because the standard icecream flavour is Vanilla, and other flavours are considered variations.
>>
What is plain ice cream like? Anyone had the chance to try it?
>>
A lot of it comes down to how little of it has to be used to get the flavor in baked goods. I can't remember which queen of England, but one of them became obsessed with it and required it to be added to everything. Everyone began to mimic the used because they wanted to be like royalty which led to its overuse which led to people seeing it as bland. Personally, I think the best thing in the world is a vanilla bean ^_^

Vanilla isn't plain it's common
Vanilla is among the most popular flavours but nobody knows why
When you don't know what you want you get vanilla
>>

You are too good for this world

>>
>>8311418
Probably a shitpost but if you actually are this retarded....ice cream. Because plain vanilla ice cream is the bland ice cream
>>
>>8311475
Sweet cream. It's actually better than vanilla, it's a lot less cloyingly sweet, but that's probably because the people used less sugar.
>>
>>8311479
>Personally, I think the best thing in the world is a vanilla bean
I'm with you and that queen. Shitty artificial vanilla extract that's in everything kinda sucks, but a nice natural vanilla flavor is perfection.
>>
>>8311479
>how little of it has to be used to get the flavor in baked goods
On a related tangent, my boss told me to use a quarter cup of extract in place of 4 beans. A quarter cup. I wanted to beat the shit out of him.
>>
"Vanilla" as a descriptor indicates the default, not plain. Often these two this overlap. Not always.

>>8311418
THIS IS A RELATIVELY COMMON LANGUAGE ACQUISITION. PRE-20TH CENTURY VANILLA HAD A POSTIVE AND EXQUISITE REPUTATION DUE TO ITS RARITY AS AN INGREDIENT. TO CALL SOMEONE VANILLA WAS A COMPLIMENT OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. IT WASNT UNTIL ARTIFICAL VANILLA WAS CREATED THAT IT BECAME A COMMON FLAVOR PROFILE AND THUSLY THE MODERN VERNACULAR REFLECTS THIS SENTIMENT.

>THE MORE YOU KNOW
>>
>>8312148
you take that back!
>>
>>8312055
My cousin tried the plastic bag method and he suffocated.

I do NOT recommend this method!
>>
>>8312145
You know, I didn't think of that. I have plenty of high-quality vanilla extract for baking, and never buy perfume because I dislike the nasty chemical smell of affordable brands.

Hmm. Guess what I'm wearing to church tomorrow?

Thank you, /loudposter/. I like your posts, I just hope you don't speak IRL like you post, because it would be kind of silly if you did.

It's actually really good, especially if you use really top quality milk and cream, and skip the eggs. It's delicate and clean tasting. Makes a really nice component to composed desserts imo

Deep inside, all of us could be the loudposter, if we really wanted to.

Most glamor shots of ice cream is actually mashed potato. Stuff for box art, or food porn images. They can put mashpo under super bright (hot) lights for tens of minutes and take a bunch of pics to get it just right. They couldn't do that with something frozen.
