I want to make my first pickled items, a few eggs.
Do I need to buy a special jar, or can I use salvaged mayo/jam... jars? How do I sterilize em?
Any other beginner tips n tricks?

Canning jars and canning method would be best. Do some research if you plan on storing them.
You can take the pansy route and do some refrigerator pickles. The flavors don't meld as nice and the textures don't even out the same, but they can be good. I make some stuff this way fairly regularly just because it's easy.

What pickling method are you using? Are you doing fridge pickling or are you going the whole canning route to have a sealed long-term preserved container?
For both, running things through the dishwasher should be good enough unless your dishwasher sucks.
For fridge pickling where you don't need an airtight seal, use mayo jars and the lids that came with them.
For canning, you can still use mayo jars, but I suggest buying lids and rings for them since the original lids are designed to only seal once. Make sure you get the right size.

If you make fridge pickles, any jar run through the dishwasher is fine. Otherwise, google it. You need some inexpensive but specialized equipment.

Cheers. I'm not planning to can anything, just basic pickling, to be eaten whenever it's done, no long term storage.

eggs might be quite difficult to make if you've never done anything like that before, i'd recommend to start with some wegetables like cucumbers or something like that.

Pickling with other stuff can add flavor and it looks rad as fuck
This is with red cabbage, or beetroot, one of those.
