When you are invited to someone's home for dinner, you eat what's served, unless there is a LEGITIMATE reason not to (food allergies, medical conditions). To just get up and leave and not come back makes you look like a total douchebag. Grow up.

These are not mutually exclusive things.
If you haven't known someone for forever or you're not sure, fucking ask them. "Hey, are you okay with onions?" You can ask about one ingredient without giving away the whole fucking meal, if you're autistic enough that it has to be a surprise.
