I've left the bar, and am somewhere else now.

I don't know if this matters or anything, but I noticed that when he went to pour some splashes from a small bottle only like a single drop came out, then he poured some soda water or whatever, then the liquor. Then mixed with ice and added more liquor.

I feel like this recipe is a little off or missing something, hence the almost watery color.

You'd be closer if you said it was missing something; the pic was downright anemic for a whisky cocktail. Probably skimped on the bourbon and filled it right up with soda, might have even skipped the sugar altogether. That would definitely be a foul cup of swill.

I think he just fucked up your drink. The small bottle was bitters which is correct, but the way it's supposed to be made is with a sugar cube saturated with two dashes of bitters. That's mixed with bourbon and a splash of water.
