Pretty good, should have gone for the barbecue though. I got ddeokbokki and the gf got some generic Chinese chicken dish. We also got dumplings. The food was all brought at different times, but the servings were huge so we just shared it all.

Ddeokbokki was pretty sweet, wasn't really a fan. Chicken was good, dumplings were great. Atmosphere was comfy

This Chinese buffet place.

The food was alright, though nothing super special. It was a very streamlined thing, the food itself was not "chinese" but more akin to what people here would normally eat, but with sweet-and-sour hotsauce. Not many spices, either. I liked the deep-fried pieces of chicken the most - don't know if having them is very Chinese or not though.

Wasabi Express, not bad. Bad plates though, chipped and cracked. They're trying hard to stay hip. I ordered a couple pieces of salmon sushi with a bowl of rice on the side. Ever try something American?
>>
>>8214322
Yeah there's a bunch of places that do southern cuisine in my city, and I love fried chicken so I've tried out a bunch of them.

For the record the schnitzel didn't really fit the english pub theme too well, their other stuff was a bit closer to theme; fish and chips with mashed peas, that kinda shit. Chicken schnitzel is just an obligatory inclusion on every bar menu in Australia.

>>8214350
Oh when I say southern I specifically mean southern American, probably didn't make that clear enough. For some reason Melbourne went through a big fried chicken obsession a year or two ago and so there's American and Korean dive bar restaurants popping up all over.

Autralian local food is pretty heavily rooted in what British people eat, really. It's kind of hard to work out foods which are part of the Australian identity though because most restaurants around my city are foreign, there's not much in the way of "Australian" places to eat, they're nearly all following some foreign theme.

Chicken schnitzel and parmigiana are both big pub menu mainstays though, and all our cafes are weirdly obsessed with avocados.
>>
>>8214361
Oh and a big emphasis on seafood but that may be a specific thing to my city, considering we have a pretty big emphasis on fishing so there's a lot of fresh fish going around.

Southern American cuisine is alligator (Florida), steak (Texas), and crayfish/prawn/shrimp (Louisiana). Those are your southern states with real southern food.
Alabama doesn't really have anything, neither does Mississippi. Nothing to mention; just know about.
And Kentucky isn't southern.... southern fried chicken isn't even our thing. Don't believe what you hear.
Most American cuisine exists because of its history, its upbringing, and its modern practicing. Specifically with how the food is cooked, and how it always has been cooked. The kind of food that takes entire days to cook..... You know that Webm with the barbecue - the food porn one? The one with the charred meat and the guy is slicing and cutting into it like its nothing and all the juices are gushing out and its drizzled with some kind of sauce? That's American cuisine. Smoking.
You could call Hawaiian food American, like seafood, buuuuuut that state has only been around for like 70 years or so and isn't traditional American, just Hawaiian.

It's not the best type of Italian food. But it's decent.
>>
>>8214378
Yeah this doesn't surprise me at all, Australia's views of America are pretty caricatured and exaggerated, pretty sure most of our vision of "Southern" food is really just "shit they serve at KFC" and then we filled in the gaps from there. Good food, but I dunno about the authenticity. Most "Southern" places here focus on gumbo, fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes and gravy, that kinda stuff.

Smoking meat with wood only native to America.
With breeds of cow and pig that are, somewhat, native to America. Don't forget the American food our American pork and beef is fed. Bison are also an American meat. Try some of that if you want something other than beef sometime. And we get some of your kangaroo jerky over here. Perhaps you can get some of our bear jerky over there.

OH! American cheese, try some stuff from Wisconsin. That's America's Dairyland, it's like the Cheese Capital, and they produce a looooooot more than just Kraft Singles.

And no worries. You're probably eating the same American food that most Americans are fed. Not even a lot of Americans realize what real food is anymore, poverty and shit, whatever.
Also, try Bourbon. Bourbon is the only name given to whisky made in Kentucky. And a lot of California wines are apparently made from California grapes (not that that's what they're called..), the kind you find no where else in the world, etc.

The point is just to look for products made from fruit, vegetables, and meat that are native to America or made from things native to America. Science and shit.
By the way, pizza is a very American cuisine item. Especially deep dish or Chicago style. Ignore the memes.

A local Thai place called Taste of Thailand

Was pretty good, ordered the Panang Curry. Not the best Thai food I've ever had but I regular this restaurant a lot because it's so close.

I had their slow roasted pork sandwich special. It was okay, nothing I wouldn't bend over backwards for. I probably would have enjoyed it more if my nose hadn't bled from sneezing too hard.

Not the best, but I would definitely go back.
Why are wings the most expensive part of the chicken given the amount of meat they have on the bone?

>Johnny Rockets, some classic "malt shoppe" themed sit-down restaurant on the Atlantic City's boardwalk back in July

It was alright, not good not bad. Nothing on the menu was surprising; mostly burgers, melts, and desserts along with the occasional brand-deal or "meme menu" item.
I had some spicy chicken bacon melt, tasted as you'd expect it to (over salted, under spiced).

It was Fourth of July weekend, so the whole boardwalk was busy and this place had a line out the door by the time we got seated (most of the people in front of us were waiting for take-out orders). Our group was split between two tables and, due to the crowd, there was a delay between our two tables being served.
Our waitress spilled a drink on the way out, which wound up dowsing some food she was holding so t he people we were with at another table got soggy buns. It was pretty funny from our perspective, but they were understandably pissed.
Looking back on it, she was probably told not to switch it out in the interest of serving others, since she definitely took it back to the kitchen first. Kinda sucks she missed out on a tip because of it.

Club Sandwich at Brown's Towne Loung

It was good. Brown's has that nice midway feel between a dive and a nice place. The chef is an old man who seems a bit odd, but he seems pretty passionate. The clientele never fails to annoy me though.

got two orders of rolled tacos and a bean burrito instead of my order though

1/10 would not recommend rolled tacos.
>>
>>8219769
Yeah. There are even "bars" that don't serve liquor. In my experience, it's usually small Asian restaurants (especially Vietnamese) which don't serve any alcohol, and gimmick bars (barcades, "taphouses") that don't serve liquor.
>>
>>8219783
Are you sure they're just not serving to "gaijin?" My experience is they probably haven't coughed up the exhorbitant fee for the liquor license and are serving to people they know.

Take heart though, it's authentic.

Always good, used to be the best place in town, but now there's a couple better places. I still go here though, because it's close to where I live. Had the vegetable korma, baigan bhartha, and vegetable biryani. (I'm not vegetarian, I just wanted those tonight. Usually I get their goat curry, which is......GOAT.)
