yeah dude the garnish really adds depth of flavor
(sarcasm)
dont forget real butter and heavy cream anon. it brings up the richness and mouthability of the soup.
Also, any recipes that come highly recommended?

A lot of people try to go the route of attempting to turn the soup into liquid pumpkin pie, but going the opposite direction and aiming for savory is pretty incredible.
Try adding rosemary, cumin, (smoked?) paprika, roasted chipotle, and roasted/shredded carrot (the carrot being pureed with the squash).

Roasted mushrooms would also be a welcome addition

How do you recommend roasting the carrots?

Just put the whole carrots in a baking dish, toss with olive oil, salt, and seasonings of choice (maybe rosemary and thyme), cover, and bake for 30 minutes at 400 degrees. If they are not tender, turn heat down to 375 and bake another 15 minutes. Optionally, turn to broil and uncover at the end until they start to heavily brown (but not blacken) to add a little bit of a smoky element (may want to tone down smoked paprika / sub with normal paprika).
If you substitute squash for Kabocha and garnish with some caramelized apples. Perfection.
