It depends on where you live and whether your tap water comes from a well or if it's city water. The house I grew up in had well water which tasted amazing. When I lived in a college dorm, the tap water was absolute shit, and I could tell the difference between bottled and tap water in instant ramen and condensed soups. I think it depends on what you're making though. I could see it making a big difference in rice as well.
