i need to heat my skillet filled with oil to 190 degrees C but i don't have a thermometer.
what do? if i put it on 6-7 would that be ok? i'm scared. i don't want my tendies to be burnt. i had it on 8 and i lost one test tendy, the breading got too dark.
you're already using testers, that's your best bet. just try it with a piece of bread or something if you don't wanna waste a tendy. and be careful for fuck's sake you don't want it to fountain.

i just placed it at 5 and a half.
if it's not hot enough and i put up the heat to 6 how long should i wait?
Watch some videos on youtube and don't pay any attention to the numbers on the dial. Heat control is a matter of time; the oil will get just as hot on 4 as on 8 if you let it heat up long enough, and putting them in on full heat without letting it heat up would be the same as trying to cook on level 1. No matter what you do, they will bet burnt if you leave them in too long.
It takes a little practice but it's all basic common sense.

that's not necessarily true

>not necessarily true
Most things aren't Necessarily true, but for anon frying a few tendies on his stove it basically is true. Obviously if he filled a 10 quart dutch oven with oil it would never get up to temp no matter how long it sat on a low flame.
OP here i just cooked them once for 3 minutes. i was supposed to recook them for another 2 but i didn'tr bother due to the fact that it would have darkened too much.
They seem to be ok with just one frying or am I a pleb?

i was using a sirracha infused wok signed by ramsey so i thought it had his powers inside.

Fair enough.
My only point was that if OP is shallow frying in a skillet on anything resembling a normal home stove, there's enough heat to do the job even on a low setting.
