Anyone else /anosmia/ here? Got it since birth and people always ask me: "You cannot taste anything, right?" In my opinion I can and I'd consider myself a pretty good cook. I don't really know if things taste different to me just because I can't smell, anyone who can share their experiences?

I do have my sense of smell, and as far as I can tell it makes a HUGE difference in tasting food. If my nose gets stuffed up due to allergies (hay fever), or from being sick then I find it has a huge effect on how food tastes.
Of course you can taste food--your taste buds still work. But smell is a major part of taste, so I would think that your taste would be different than most people.
Don't worry the co founder of ben&jerrys suffered a similiar fate and now morons will toss their own icecream for his commercial overpriced buckets.

Yeah, that's what people tell me as well, but being used to smelling and then having it taken away is a different thing than not having the ability to smell in the first place, i suppose.

You do have a bit of a point.
Its kind of like that thing where someone who is blind from birth can make their way through the world due to extra sensetive hearing.
Im not sure if thats neccecarily the case for you, but it would be interesting to study

>but being used to smelling and then having it taken away is a different thing than not having the ability to smell in the first place,
Yeah, that's absolutely correct.

my friend also can't smell. i'm wondering though, what does pussy taste like to you?

Well it's been a while, but for me it tasted like kissing, but a little sweeter. It's an odd thing to describe, but that's how I remember it

lol

I always wondered if my other senses are more "advanced" in any way, but I don't have any indication for how that should be the case.

My dad has the same and he has been a chef all his life. It doesn't seem to affect the quality of his cooking, because he makes great food.
