I do have my sense of smell, and as far as I can tell it makes a HUGE difference in tasting food. If my nose gets stuffed up due to allergies (hay fever), or from being sick then I find it has a huge effect on how food tastes.

Of course you can taste food--your taste buds still work. But smell is a major part of taste, so I would think that your taste would be different than most people.

Don't worry the co founder of ben&jerrys suffered a similiar fate and now morons will toss their own icecream for his commercial overpriced buckets.

Its kind of like that thing where someone who is blind from birth can make their way through the world due to extra sensetive hearing.
Im not sure if thats neccecarily the case for you, but it would be interesting to study

Well it's been a while, but for me it tasted like kissing, but a little sweeter. It's an odd thing to describe, but that's how I remember it

I always wondered if my other senses are more "advanced" in any way, but I don't have any indication for how that should be the case.

It's not like you have skill points like in a video game that are distributed evenly on your senses. But if you are blind for example, you need to rely more on your hearing, feeling etc. that's how the other senses get extra sensitive

My dad has the same and he has been a chef all his life. It doesn't seem to affect the quality of his cooking, because he makes great food.
