There is an art to mixing things, but if the chief complaint is "burning" then it's probably because you're a pussy. Make a weaker martini and see if it floats your boat. Also google around a little if you like, there's plenty of websites that breakdown the different gins and describes them.

I've drank Death's Door gin straight up and it's delicious. I drink scotch straight too.

Beefeater is a shitty gin through and through.
Try Tanqueray or Bombay if you want a London dry gin.

Don't listen to this guy, Beefeater is a great gin for the price especially compared to Tanqueray which is completely flavorless beyond being a bit 'sweet.'

If you're willing to spend more for a martini Bombay, Hendrix, and Plymouth are all excellent gins (in that respective order).
