ITT: Food that's been ruined for you

Spaghetti and meatballs for me
>mother boils pasta in the sauce
>result: watery tomato water over spaghetti with bits of ground meat
>>
>>7428147
Spaghetti and meatballs could never be ruined for me, it's my single favourite dish of all time.
>>
>>7428147
Jesus really, how hard is it to cook spaghetti?

Also food runied for me is fried pickles after I got one from a place one time and it was fucking brown on the inside and I'm not sure it was even a pickle to begin with
>>
>>7428147
My dad would've ruined spaghetti for me because he always tries different stuff with the recipe and it's always crappy. Thankfully though, my grandma makes amazing spaghetti and meatballs so it's not ruined for me.

>Spaghetti and meatballs for me
Same familia.

>grow up in predominant polish/german family
>grandfather is italian
>after grandmother passes everyone turns into guidophiles
>nobody goes by recipe
>overboil spaghetti
>boil down store sauce
>they'll accept nothing but bland, bitter sauce with no depth
>also buy premade meatballs
>complain how premade tastes like dog food but buy anyway because they're lazy
>when they do make meatballs they're burnt or fall apart
>sometimes they'll chop sausage links in lieu of meatballs
>timed my mom once boiling sausages in red sauce for over three hours

At least when grandma was alive, we'd make our own fresh tomato sauce from the garden. I'd hand grind bushels of tomatoes, and we'd reduce the sauce.
>mfw when I make the dish using a recipe they complain about the garlic and herbs, y'know, because real italians hate that
>>
>understand and acknowledge that your only experience with a food has been tainted by poor cooks
>refuse to try the geniune article made by someone not incompetent

Can't eat maultaschen anymore, within 2 months I ate maultaschen that were past the expiration date twice and spent a week each time trying to not die.
Now whenever I see them or smell them I get a headache and get dizzy.
>>
>>7428153
that's funny

Spaghetti and meatballs is the only dish I can say I DON'T like.
Even good spaghetti is just boring and bland, I'd never order it at a restaurant or cook it at home.

I love every other "italian" dish, but spaghetti is just ultra shit
>>
Friend who can't cook for shit made me chili once when we were both wasted. The taste of vodka chasing a bowl with a whole bottle of tobasco put in haunted me for years.
>>
boiling pasta in the sauce would thicken the sauce though, how the fuck is it making it watery
>>
Mostaccioli
>hot lunch day at elementary school
>canned mostaccioli with meat sauce from Gordon Food Services
>feel fine rest of day
>get home
>vomiting all over the place
>drink tall glass of milk to soothe throat and stomach
>vomit even more
>goes on for nearly 48 hours

I'm 33 and still heave when I smell any kind of canned pasta
>>
>>7429203

probably a crappy watery sauce to begin with
>>
Spiced rum
>>
>>7429709
I dread sailor jerry, I understand senpai
Potato salad was ruined for me when I was young as I had somehow mistaken it for vanilla ice cream, years later I tried it and it was still shit. I'm still not sure how I mixed that up
>>
Mac n Cheese.

When I was 6 or so I had some nice homemade mac n cheese but I was terribly sick at the time and for years the association stuck. I don't exactly have an aversion to it now, but I never go out of my way to have it and it always ends up tasting bland
>>
>>7428147
>>7429203
Wondering the same thing. Explain yourself, OP.
>>
>>7429745
Maybe you'll grow out of your childish palate one day kiddo
>>
>>7430363
Fuck you I don't like potato salad either

I don't get why people thought it was a good idea to just drench everything in mayo and serve it cold

>>7429745
How the fuck did you mistake potato salad for ice cream
>>
>>7430363

>childish palate
>eating potatoes & mayonnaise cereal
>>
Beef flavour ramen

There was a period when I was growing up that we were poor as shit and it's all we ate for like two months straight. My dad would always overcook it so the noodles were disgusting and soggy.

I'll eat any other flavour.
>>
Deer, because I'm a sissy and saw my grandpa gut, skin, and chop one up after shooting it when I was about 5. Every time I see or smell deer meat I can still picture the throat hanging out of the one he killed.
>>
>>7429252

>>

Thank you Hiro for these filters
>>
>>7428147
It was ruined for me too for awhile.

One of the many disgusting habits of people here is to just fucking leave spaghetti in the fucking water in the pot. You are supposed to just kind of serve yourself by walking up and scooping out the pasta onto a plate and then spoon the sauce from a separate pot on top of the pasta. Two things of course happen. The spaghetti turns into mush from sitting in the lukewarm water and since the noodles are still wet as soon as the sauce touches them the sauce immediately dissolves.

Mall chains like Sbarro serve their spaghetti this way and it is of course vile ass shit.
>>
>>7429252
>>hot lunch day

What kind of shithole do you live in if everyday isn't hot lunch day at school?
>>
Ranch because disgusting child-adults. I don't need to go into details.

I guess chili because my mom knows how to cook two things: Chili and pot roast. No spices or herbs added to either. Just bland shit. And yes, I literally mean two. Her pantry is nothing but snack foods and the fridge is full of frozen and meals and more snack foods.
>>
Any pasta I cook myself. And plain white rice I cook myself. Ill eat those things if someone else cooks it.

When im really broke, i survive off of cheap pasta and even cheaper sauce, white rice and lentils. I havent had any of that in a while and I still dont miss it.
>>
>>7428147
Spring rolls after eating a whole bowl of them about ten years ago. Can't ever go back to eating those.
>>
>>7430378
>mayo
Well, that's one way of fucking up potato salad.
>>
>>7430416
I always put a little shredded cheddar in my beef ramen
>>
>>7431624
It was a very old private school that didn't have a cafeteria. They'd set up tables every day in this big room that was used for latchkey kids. Hot lunch day was Monday, which was usually mostacciloi, tacos, or sloppy joes. Pizza day was Wednesday from a local pizzeria. Friday was tuna fish sandwiches day because catholics. Tuesday and Thursday we had to bring our own lunches.
>>
Spaghetti & meatballs is a meme, right?

It's just so much worse than a decent ragu.
>>
>>7429252
>drink a tall glass of milk to soothe stomach
What the fuck were you thinking
>>
>>7428147
This is when you volunteer to cook. Do it properly, and let her ask advice when she realizes how much better your way is.

There's no reason cooks can't learn from each other.

Shame.
My wife makes GOAT Maultaschen with Speck and Gemüse.
I like them fried with scrambled eggs, too.

My mom almost ruined pizza for me, the tomatoes were almost rotten.
Puked like a champ that night.

Mc donalds ice cream. When I was younger I went with my dad to get an ice cream cone at mc donalds. My dad was already pissed and when we got the ice cream cone it had hair in it. not just one or two hairs. It had a wad of hair like somebody had cleaned out their brush of curly hair and put it in the ice cream cone. I told my dad and he told me I better eat that fucking ice cream cone. So I ate it.
>>
halloween candy corn

i used to love that shit but one time i ate a bunch and then came down with norovirus and i haven't been able to eat it since

... something a little bit different that happened to me is i developed an intolerence to egg white and they make me have norovirus symptoms so i can't eat those either.. sucks
>>
>>7428147
I'm so sorry. That's one of my favorite foods and i couldn't even imagine.
>>
>>7429258
no, it makes no sense at all.

>>7430116
One possible explanation is that rather than using canned tomato sauce, she simply used a can of tomatoes and some ground beef.

That would result in the described nightmare
>>
My country's version of cheese curds. It's like a saltier, more consistent version of cottage cheese. It makes for a delicious snack with tortilla chips. Working class people eat it a lot because it's dirt cheap and has a lot of calcium and other nutrients.

My parents, being broke, bought it constantly for my brother and I when we were children. Once it was only slightly saltier than usual, not in a putrid kind of way but in a savory kind of way. So we devoured it.
A couple of hours we both had the worst fucking stomach ache ever, I could feel my guts squirming and contracting inside. I bolted out of bed and shat pure molten lava with such an angry force that my ass was lifted from the toilet seat. I still felt like shit so I then proceeded to vomit the fuck out in the sink while still shitting mightily. My brother was doing the same in the other bathroom. I vomited so much that I puked blood after a while. I passed out after awhile, but they told me they were about to take to the hospital when we calmed down and just stopped dying. My parents were mortified and never bought cheese curds again.
>>
>>7433977
that's a shame

I always liked McD's ice cream, it tastes kind of like peanuts to me.
>>
spicy chicken sandwiches for me. when i was about 15 i ate a couple of those and washed it down with half a fifth of smirnoff, woke up the next day and puked it all out. can't stand the smell of them to this day.
>>
Southern Comfort
>>
>>7435714
Woah. Name? I'm morbidly curious. Also, a hint of self-preservation by trying to avoid it.
>>
Mashed potatoes for me. My mom makes them with little to no salt and butter, so they are so fucking bland. They also have the worst consistency.

Also, Kraken's dark rum after I drank too much and puked it.
>>
>>7435740

>not making mashed potatoes with roasted garlic
>green onions/scallions
>sour cream
>bacon bits
>cheese

mashed potatoes has an almost infinite variety of preparation. Your mom may have colossally fucked them up but that doesn't mean avoid them. You're seriously missing out on some badass food
>>
>>7433977
Your dad sounds like a shitty human being.
>>
>>7428239
>red sauce
>>
>>7435730
Of the cheese curds? It's called cuajada, at least that's the name in my country. Most Northern Central Americans love that shit. It's pretty delicious as a drunk food with beer.
>>
>>7435804
Sour cream and onion mashed potatoes with bacon is delicious.

I sometimes also like to mash up some red potatoes with the skins on with roast garlic, extra virgin olive oil, parmesan and rosemary.

Fucking pancakes. I got food poisoning after getting pancakes at a 24 hour diner at like 2 in the morning and spent a few hours dry heaving and occasionally horking up a bite of pancake with blackberry topping. I couldn't eat pancakes for years after that and even now I eat maybe one or two small ones and can't take any more than that. Fortunately I'm still cool with waffles, which are vastly superior anyhow.
>>
Mexican fried rice. Thought I could use the oil I used to fry tortillas in for enchiladas and even burned one, rice smelled like melting plastic.
>>
I dont think theres a single dish thats been ruined for me because i know i can make it properly.
>>

Chorizo (with potatoes)

>18
>Cooked Chorizo and potatoes with eggs, beans and tortillas
>Ate a plate before my family came home from doing something
>They came back and said they already ate
>Later that night have seconds and pass out
>Wake up in really bad stomach pain, ended up vomiting off and on for 2 hours
>Lay in bed in pain all day
>Haven't touched it since

I think that I under cooked it, because my reaction was really violent.
>>
>>7428147
More or less my fault, but hard boiled eggs are still are moderately stress inducing obejects to me.

>I'm manila
>walking around kinda hungry
>buy what I think is a hard boiled egg
>balut

I also was given fried cow placenta in Nairobi, but I'd never eat that even if it tasted good.
>>
>8 years old

>dad uses french's onion dip instead of mayo

Hard boiled eggs.
My mom always boils them for 30 minutes. Just thinking about it makes me want to vomit.

To this day I still can't stand the smell of mac n cheese.

Shake 'n Bake chicken. My mom made it so much when I was a kid I will never eat anymore of it.
And I used to hate pork chops, but then I tried a few some of my friends made and I realised my mom just sucked at making them. They were always so dry.

fast food icecream, no thanks. you have to trust monkeys with keeping dairy at the proper temperature.

i sued mcdonalds and won after getting severe food poisoning. i even got contacted and did an interview for a documentary on food poisoning in fast food.

Growing up my parents are hardcare penny pinchers. When they find somehting on sale they STOCK THE FUCK UP. Or they just cook it terribly.

They've ruined
>Mac and Cheese
>Corndogs
>Pizza
>Steak

My Dad managed to find a way to get boxes of corn dogs for .25 cents. So that ruined it. We never finished the boxes of corndogs.

They cook steak until it's chewy. That ruined it for me. I got a job at a steakhouse that fixed it for me and now I like steak.
