You're kitchen is empty and you're stocking up for the week.

what do you buy /ck/?
>>
A few onions, some spinach, a pumpkin, a few zucchini, green beans, mushrooms, cabbage, whatever other vegetables happen to look particularly cheap on the day, ground mince, one steak, a whole chicken, a lamb/cow/pig liver. Maybe some cheese as well.
>>
Whatever is on sale.
>>
>>7387535
But I am not kitchen.
>>
>>7387544
Spices and oil too, if I'm out of that as well. Doesn't matter which ones, as long as there's some variety.
>>
Rice
meat
dry pasta
pasta sauce
fruits
frozen veggies
frozen foods like fried chicken, buffalo wings, etc.

any any spices that i need to restock on

American detected.

As a Chechen, I would purchase carrots, cabbage, rice, pasta and tomatoes Maybe some cheese. Meat of course comes from the local farms and from wild deer.

And here I thought I'd be ridiculed for a repetitive diet.

in order of importance: salt, pepper, oil (regular canola or grapeseed oil if i had to pick one), dried herbs/ spices (garlic powder, paprika, bay leaf, cumin, oregano, thyme, sage, parsley, bbq rub, vegetable seasoning, all purpose seasoning, anything else that looks good.) if the spices amd dried herbs are more than 1 dollar i wont get them bc its a rip off. id just go to the 99cents store instead for them. then also sugar, apple cider vinegar (id also get white vinegar and balsamic if money allows) and flour

for vegetables and fruits id get: potato, tomato, onion, celery, carrots, purple cabbage, mixed lettuce greens, apple, orange, banana,

then id get anything on season and on sale that isnt usually cheap like the above items such as yams, fennel, bell pepper, squash, mushrooms, goldeen beets, heirloom tomatos, stawberries, grapes, pineapple, peaches etc

for dried pantry id get oatmeal, wild rice, brown rice, white rice, green lentils, orange lentils, red beans, navy peans, pinto beans, chickpeas, dried pasta noodles

for meat id buy whatever is on sale and freeze if it i need to, but it usually looks like chicken leg quarters, beef shank, ground beef, cheap steaks, pork chops, chicken breasts, shrimp

other things id consider getting
bouillon cubes, soy sauce, hot sauce. bbq sauce, canned tuna, eggs, canned vebetables, honey, mayonaise, mustard, ketchup, frozen fruits and frozen vegetables, tortillas, yogurt, milk, cheese, sour cream, more spices, vanilla extract, chocolate, cake mix, powdered drink mix, instant gravy packets, sausages, nuts, tea, coffee, and so on

typical breakfast: oatmeal with fruit on the side, or fruit smoothie, or vegetable saute of sqaush mushrooms etc with fried eggs, egg and cheese sandwich. for something special like once a week, panacakes hashbrown and sausage, mexican rancho juevos, french toast

for lunch usually a salad with grilled chicken. for dinner alotofthingsoutofspaceforpostsothatsallimgoingtotype

So many questions.
>>
>>7387535
If my kitchen was ever totally empty, and it never would be, but for the exercise (I do copycanning. If I'm buying something shelf stable, I buy 2 of it while it's on sale. this saves my ass if I have financial emergencies. Like last week when the company fucked up payroll right after I paid 6k to get a gas line run to my house):

4 Cans Wolf Chili with Beans.
4 Cans Rotel
4 packs of spaghetti
Sour cream
shredded cheddar cheese
Potatoes
mayonnaise
Mustard
Salt
pepper
dry rosemary
dry thyme
Pork shoulder
evoo
cabbage
carrots
celery
white vinegar
sugar
flour
yeast
case of bottled water
Split peas
Bacon ends

This will give me 4 meals of chili mac, with 4 more ready for next week if need be.
Pork sandwiches with coleslaw topping and potato salad as a side.
and split pea soup.

Enough variety there, and I'll have added a few staples like the flour and sugar that can be used going forward. I would also get a sourdough starter going, because I do a lot of soups, and sourdough is soup's best friend.
>>
2 Chicken breast tenderloin packs
2 spinach-arugula salad mixes
Bottle of balsamic vinegrette
2 packs of baby red potatoes
2-3 packs of button mushrooms
Olive oil
Steambag of sweet babypeas and mushrooms
Frozen southwest style rice and bean dinner
Frozen strawberries, mango
Bananas
Half gallon of milk
Large tub of greek yogurt
Loaf of whole wheat bread
Some kind of chicken/turkey deli meat
Provolone cheese
Pepperoncini

Fruit smoothie breakfasts
Sandwhich lunches + salads
Meat + potato/mushroom +salads dinners

>>
I never completely run out of essentials, but I usually buy sandwich stuff: wheat bread, ham, turkey, cheddar cheese, spinach, tomato, pickles. 2 dozen eggs, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cans or tuna, beef chuckroast, 1 onion, large can of coffee, then whatever else looks good while at store.
>>
>>7388641
>making $10 an hour when rent is $200 per week
>>7388732
weekends and nights. I sell $30 giftcards for $25. As for the fuel, I don't do the driving. Squad hooks me up with rides and I'll give them a free gift card for their time. My time isn't worth much considering all I do outside of work and ripping off grocery stores is banepost on /tv/
>>
>>7390756
>your brother deserves a better caretaker
That $600/mo works out to $150/wk for 2 people? He's not really doing anything too crazy. I spend that for one person. From about $75 to $200 if I'm honest about it. And, I eat out too.

But, I could never shop for a full month at a time. I like too many fresh items, from salad ingredients to fresh fruit and other prepared foods like chicken salad or fresh breads.

I keep my pantry full of my usual things, granola bars for a fast breakfast, coffee beans of various sources, bottled water/sodas and juice drinks, soups, snacks, nuts, things that are "hurricane supplies" worthy if they sit awhile before I touch them, like starch choices, mixes, baking supplies. I stock up on canned tomatoes, beans, pickled items. And, then replace them as they come on sale. And, well, what if there is a war? Gotta be prepared for some extended issue. So, I shop at BJs, CostCo, TraderJoes, Whole foods, various local stores, Wal-Mart, liquor store, wherever, and I buy things before I need them when their price is right. I entertain and party a bunch.

If I'm stocking up I'd be stocking up for more then a week. I keep my stables well in stock so I don't run out.

But if the house had burned down and I needed to restart? I'd start with the pantry. You can add fresh things on a sporadic basis, but a well stocked pantry is a lifesaver.

So basic list would be :
flour (all purpose, may pastry whole wheat), sugar (white, brown, turbinado), pearled barley, lentils (red and green), split peas, rice (jasmine. arborio, basmati), oats, dried beans in some form, canned tomatoes, canned corn, canned beans, coconut milk, assorted sauces and condiments. Cooking oil (peanut and grapeseed), salad dressing oil (olive, hazelnut if I'm feeling fancy), vinegar (white, red wine, apple cider). Baking powder and baking soda. Quinoa, couscous, pasta (rotini and fettucine likely).

Then I'd have to rebuild spices and seasoning and well, pic related.
>>
>>7387535
Four proteins, two bags of frozen vegetables, four cups of light yogurt, some condiments and any sundries I ran out of like shampoo or laundry detergent.
>>
>>7387535
>stocking up for the week
>the week

I buy a few cans of soup, some tea, some bread, and maybe some meat and/or cheese if I feel like spoiling myself.

It's me and my GF, we never really run out of essentials (buy spices/vinegar in very large quantities every few months) and generally end up mostly buying more beans, oil, mayo/mustard/sauces, and produce weekly. If I had to start from scratch and cover at least a week of food, I'd get:

Sauces/spices (bought in bulk where available)
> Tamari, hoisin, sriracha, Just Mayo, FYH sour cream, yellow and spicy mustard
> Salt, smoked/paprika, MSG, liquid smoke, powdered ginger and garlic, italian seasoning mix, curry seasoning mix, taco seasoning mix, fennel, rosemary, sugar, kala namak
> Fresh basil (technically I have it planted outside, but I suppose I'd just buy it otherwise) and cilantro
> Better than bouillon vegetable broth

Oil/Vinegar/etc
> sesame oil, canola oil, olive oil, coconut oil
> Apple cider, white wine, red wine, and rice wine vinegar
> Cheap red wine for cooking

Bulk foods
> Pound of whole-wheat flour
> Pound of wheat gluten
> Pound of dried whole-wheat pasta
> Half pound of brown rice, half pound of jasmine rice
> Quarter pound of nutritional yeast
> Quarter pound of TVP
> Active yeast for baking
> Peanuts (1/2 lb), cashews (1/2 lb), almonds (1/2 lb)
> Plain grind-yourself peanut butter (~1/2 lb)

Canned/boxed/packaged foods
> Five cans each black beans, kidney beans, chickpeas
> 6lb extra firm tofu
> package of tempeh
> One can tomato paste, one can stewed tomatoes
> Two cartons unsweetened soy milk
> Tub of earth balance margarine
> Tub of dried shiitake mushrooms
> Can of coconut milk
> Lemon juice bottle

Produce
> ~7 red onions
> ~7 potatoes (mix of yukon gold and red garnet yam)
> ~3 cloves garlic, a ginger root
> ~1lb crimini mushrooms
> 12 green onions
> 5lb carrots
> several stalks celery
> english cucumber
> 1/2lb baby spinach
> 3 tomatillo and 3 tomato
> 4 avocado
> 3 red peppers
> 6 beets
> pound of brussel sprouts
> large frozen bag of corn/peas/stir fry mixed veggies
> frozen fruit slices
>>
Do you guys typically go to the store with a week's worth of meals in mind, or do you just buy a bunch of versatile ingredients and then decide what you're going to make later? I always have a few specific dinners in mind and then just grab an assortment of other things that I can probably throw together into something.
>>
>>7394517

Oh, and miso
>>
>>7394537

I go to a discount store (Cash 'n Carry)) and buy giant quantities of spices, dried shiitake, vinegar, and other non-perishables 2-3 times a year. Twice a month or less I go to the same store to get giant bags of potatoes, onions, and fresh cilantro/basil.

I then go to Winco about twice a month for bulk goods like dried pasta, flour, sugar, salt, TVP, nutritional yeast, nuts/seeds

Weekly to Winco for things like fresh produce, a few cans of whatever beans I'm low on, soy milk, and sauces/condiments I'm out of, anything odd/specific I need for a particular meal, etc

A couple days a week I stop by Grocery Outlet on the way home and see if they have any heavily discounted junk food I like, sometimes they have tubs of nondairy icecream for $2, Chao cheese marked down to $1.99 a package ($7.99 at Safeway), frozen potstickers, that sort of stuff.
>>
>>7394537
I usually just buy whatever staple things I'm low on, check out what''s on sale and get stuff that's a good deal, maybe get a few extra things based on what's on sale and what I want to make with it if I don't already have it. I'll sometimes also have one or two specific recipes in mind and buy a few things specifically to make those.

It really all depends on what I feel like making and what produce or meat looks good and/or is on sale.

I usually go to the store and look at what looks good in the produce department, what's on sale, etc. then I base whatever I'm going to make off of that. say if there were yams on sale I would buy a pepper and cranberries and make a casserole, or if there was a good head of bok choy I would buy peppers and chicken and water chestnuts for stir fry.

basically I make it up as I go and have a few staples (cereal, oatmeal, milk, eggs, cottage cheese)

Why? If you regard your pantry as emergency rations as well that's way too little, but otherwise it's way too much.

I keep 30kg of rice under the bed for emergencies, and still consider that too little. No more than 2kg in my pantry at any one time. Half of the 2kg is brown rice, by the way. You can't store brown rice long term due to its oil content, unfortunately.

Regardless, you really want approximately equal proportions of the green/yellow/red spectrum, while throwing in the same quantity of high sulfur vegetables (brussel sprouts, mushrooms, cauliflower, etc.) The "eat your greens" thing is outdated by over a decade.

By that logic EVERYTHING can contain gluten.
You wouldn't even be able to cook at home, in case your glutenfree products had been handled by someone who might have touched gluten at some point.
Also, who the fuck puts ice in their drink like that anyway.
